🤍 We're proud to de a Donation Drop-Off location for The Kindness Cubby Tasmania ! 🤍

We're excited to announce that Dental On Opal is now an official donation drop-off point for The Kindness Cubby Tasmania.

The Kindness Cubby is a wonderful local initiative supporting children, young people and families across Southern Tasmania by providing care packages filled with essential items and thoughtful extras.

If you have any quality new or pre-loved children's items you'd like to donate, you're welcome to drop them into our donation box at Dental On Opal.

🧸 We happily accept: • Children's clothing • Toys • Books • Baby essentials • School supplies • Toiletries • Blankets and bedding • Other children's essentials.

🗓️ As our opening hours can vary depending on patient appointments, we recommend giving us a call or sending us a message before making a special trip.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support local children and families doing it tough.

Helping your child feel ready for their dental visit 🦷✨️

A positive experience at the dentist can make all the difference! Here are a few simple ways to help your child feel comfortable and confident before their appointment:

Before the visit:
• Speak positively about going to the dentist
• Treat the appointment like a normal every day activity
• Practice counting teeth together at home
• Talk about the fun dental chair ride and special glasses

On the day:
• Bring along their favourite toy or comfort item
• Arrive a little early so your child can settle into the new environment
• Morning appointments are often best when children are well rested
• If you have any concerns, chat with our friendly team before the appointment
• Most importantly - stay relaxed and positive!

The first few dental visits are all about helping your child feel safe, comfortable and familiar with the dentist. Building positive experiences early can help create healthy dental habits! 😁🦷

Does your toothbrush look like this?
When should you replace your toothbrush?

If your toothbrush bristles are looking frayed, bent or worn out - it's time for a new one! Worn bristles don't clean your teeth effectively and can be harsher on your gums.

As a general guide, replace your toothbrush or electric toothbrush head every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed.

It's also a good idea to change your toothbrush after being sick to help prevent lingering germs.

A fresh toothbrush = a healthier smile 😁✨️

Give your child's smile the best start 🦷✨️

Healthy baby teeth play an important role in your child's growth and development. Tooth decay can begin as soon as the first teeth appear, which is why we recommend booking your child's first dental visit at around 12 months of age. Early visits help children feel comfortable and confident at the dentist from a young age.

Healthy baby teeth help children with:
🦷 Eating and chewing food properly
🦷 Learning to speak clearly
🦷 Holding space for adult teeth to come through correctly
🦷 Developing strong jaw and mouth muscles

Every child's teeth develop at their own pace, and some children may still have baby molars until around 11-12 years old. Start cleaning your baby's teeth as soon as they appear and continue helping with brushing until at least 8 years of age to ensure they are cleaning effectively. Don't forget to introduce flossing!
