Did you know....
The average human tongue has approximately 10,000 taste buds.
This number varies from person to person (ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 or more) and they regenerate every couple of weeks, but the regeneration process decreases with age.
These buds, containing taste receptor cells, detect sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami flavors and are found not just on the tongue but also on the palate, throat, and cheeks.
