Periodontitis, or gum disease, gradually destroys the supporting structures of your teeth—including gums and jaw bone. Once lost, these structures cannot naturally grow back, leading to gum recession, loose teeth, and even tooth loss if left untreated.

Beyond affecting your smile, untreated gum disease can impact chewing, oral function, and overall health.

The good news? With the care of a periodontist, gum disease can often be managed and controlled, helping preserve your teeth and maintain a healthy, confident smile.

A cracked or fractured tooth—sometimes called cracked tooth syndrome—can range from a tiny chip to a visible break. It doesn’t just happen to older adults; anyone can experience a tooth fracture.

Common causes include biting down on hard foods, trauma, grinding teeth, or even large fillings. Cracked teeth can be painful, sensitive, and if left untreated, may worsen over time.

If you think you’ve cracked a tooth, see your dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime:
➡️ Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth
➡️ Stick to soft foods
➡️ Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed

Your dentist can assess the type of crack and recommend the appropriate treatment to protect your tooth. In some cases, they may refer you to one of our Endodontists for specialised care.

A root canal is a highly effective treatment that works from the inside out. When the nerve and pulp inside a tooth become infected due to decay, trauma, or gum disease, it can cause pain, sensitivity, and swelling. Root canal therapy removes the infected tissue, cleans and disinfects the inner canals, and seals the tooth to prevent further infection.

This process not only relieves pain but also preserves your natural tooth structure — which is far better than extraction — helping maintain proper bite, chewing function, and overall oral health.

Modern techniques adopted by our Endodontist makes the procedure virtually pain-free, allowing you to keep your natural smile and avoid complications in the future.

Crown lengthening is a common dental procedure that involves reshaping the gum and bone tissue to expose more of the tooth’s surface. It can be performed for both functional and cosmetic reasons.

You may be a suitable candidate for crown lengthening if:

✔️ You need to repair a damaged tooth due to trauma, decay, or gum disease.
✔️ You wish to improve the appearance of your smile, particularly if you have a “gummy smile” or uneven gum line.
✔️ You are preparing for a dental crown, but not enough of the tooth is exposed to securely place the restoration.

If you’re unsure whether crown lengthening is right for you, speak with our Periodontist. They can assess your oral health and determine whether this procedure is necessary to achieve the best outcome for your treatment.

When it comes to preserving natural teeth, two procedures are commonly used: root canal surgery and apicoectomy.

✔️ Root Canal: The dentist opens the tooth, removes the infected pulp—which consists of nerves, blood vessels, and tissue—cleans the roots, and seals the tooth. This procedure stops infection and restores normal function.

✔️ Apicoectomy: This minor surgical procedure is performed when a previous root canal has not fully resolved the infection. Only the tip of the tooth’s root is removed, targeting the infection while preserving the remainder of the tooth.

Both procedures are intended to relieve pain, manage infection, and maintain the health of natural teeth. Decisions about treatment should always be made in consultation with our Endodontist who can assess the specific circumstances.
