🧪🦷 Dentists are scientists too! 🔬✨
This National Science Week, we’re celebrating the curiosity, research and innovation that help keep smiles healthy every day. Dentistry brings together biology, chemistry, anatomy, materials science, technology and a whole lot of problem-solving - so there’s much more science happening in the dental chair than you might realise! 😁
Dental professionals have also played their part in scientific history. In 1844, dentist Horace Wells pioneered the use of nitrous oxide as an anaesthetic, helping shape the future of pain control in healthcare. Early dental innovators such as Levi Spear Parmly were also exploring new approaches to cleaning between teeth and preventing dental disease more than 200 years ago.
So during Science Week, we’re giving a big shout-out to scientists, researchers, teachers and curious minds everywhere - and especially to the young people who might one day become our next dentists, doctors, engineers, researchers or inventors. 👩🔬👨🔬🧬🚀
Stay curious. Keep asking questions. And never stop experimenting… although perhaps leave the experiments on your teeth to the professionals!
