Invisalign Day is on Saturday 10 October, across our Taylors Lakes, Melton and Bacchus Marsh practices.

Upper and lower All-On-4 Plus® treatment, completed by Dr Fong.

Where teeth across both arches are failing, worn or already missing, replacing the full arch may be considered rather than treating each tooth individually. Treating both arches together means the bite can be planned as a whole, since the upper and lower teeth need to function against one another.

All-On-4 Plus® uses four or more implants per arch to support a fixed bridge. The implants are angled to make use of the available bone, which is central to how the technique works.

Suitability depends on bone volume, gum health, general medical history and what the clinical assessment and 3D imaging show. Where bone volume is insufficient, grafting may be required, which lengthens the treatment sequence.

Full arch treatment of this scale is staged over a period of time rather than completed in one visit. Treatment plans, healing intervals and results vary from person to person.

This is what an ordinary appointment looks like from the doorway. One person in the chair, one working, one sorting out notes, and a show playing overhead that nobody is fully watching but everybody is grateful for.

The ceiling screens were not a gimmick. Having somewhere to look that is not the light or the ceiling tiles genuinely helps, particularly for anyone who finds appointments difficult. Plenty of patients pick something before we start.

Nothing dramatic happening here. Which, when it comes to dental appointments, is very much the goal.

It starts with a 3D scan. An intraoral scanner takes a digital model of your teeth in a few minutes, with no putty impressions. From that scan, software generates a simulation showing the projected movement of your teeth over the course of treatment. From there you have a full examination. Your teeth, bite, gums and jaw are assessed, because aligners are not suitable for every case and that determination comes from the clinical picture rather than from the scan alone.

You then discuss a treatment plan based on what the assessment shows, including whether clear aligners are appropriate, what the alternatives might be, and what is involved in each. Treatment length and suitability vary from person to person.

Cost is one of the most common reasons treatment gets put off. It is worth raising early rather than deciding on your own that something is out of reach.

There are usually more options than people expect. Payment plans allow treatment to be spread over time rather than paid in full up front. Private health fund rebates may cover part of the cost depending on your fund and level of cover. And for some patients, early release of superannuation on compassionate grounds may be available for certain dental treatment.

That last one has conditions attached and is assessed by the ATO, not by us. What applies depends on your circumstances and the treatment involved.

For a lot of people, the hardest part of a dental appointment is deciding to book it.

Dental anxiety is common, and it is rarely irrational. It usually traces back to a specific experience, often years earlier, and it does not fade just because time has passed. Plenty of people manage it by avoiding appointments altogether, which tends to make the eventual visit harder rather than easier.

Happy gas, or nitrous oxide, is one of the options that may help. It is breathed in through a small mask and is a form of conscious sedation, so you stay awake and aware throughout. It usually clears fairly quickly once the mask comes off, and your dentist will talk you through what to expect afterwards, including driving.

Whether it is suitable depends on your medical history and follows a clinical assessment. It is also not the only option. Shorter appointments, breaking treatment into stages, or simply agreeing to stop when you raise your hand all make a difference for some people.

If nerves are the reason you have been putting it off, say so when you call. It changes how we plan the appointment.

Veneers are thin custom made shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth. They may be considered where teeth are worn, chipped, uneven in shape, or where there are gaps. Whitening addresses the shade of the natural teeth, and is often sequenced before veneer work so the shade can be matched to the lightened teeth rather than the original.

Suitability depends on the condition of your enamel, your gum health, your bite and what the clinical assessment shows. Some cases are better addressed with orthodontic treatment or bonding instead, and that discussion happens before anything is committed to.
