It’s time to find a cure for MND! At NB Dental we are wearing 'Fight MND' beanies this week at work!

From our lovely Dr Amanda:
We are raising funds to find a cure close to my heart as my father was diagnosed at the end of 2020. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a terminal diagnosis with no cure and sadly there are no known effective therapies to slow or halt the progression of MND. In less than two years, this disease has so far stolen my dad’s ability to use both his legs and his left arm and weakened his right arm. He went from a strong country farmer with much independence to now being wheelchair bound – so very unfair!

Research is expensive and I’m hoping with greater awareness, and more charity events, the more funds raised will help find the cure.
The horrible and debilitating disease gradually takes away the patient’s use of their arms and legs, their ability to eat and swallow, their speech and ultimately their ability to breathe…all in an average timeframe of just 27 months.

Founded in 2014, FightMND was established with the purpose of finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for MND. The MND and Me Foundation supports people and their families living with MND in Queensland. The Foundation delivers support programs and funds research into treatments and a cure for MND.

IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE 🥳
DENTAL HEALTH WEEK!
A major campaign created by our governing body (the ADA) to make sure we are aligning with the best oral health practices and to make the community aware of what needs to CHANGE ☝🏼
This years focus is ‘how much sugar is in your trolley?’. A very fair question don’t you think? Well let’s look at some figures.

73% of young people (14-18 years) are consuming too much sugar, while there’s 47% of adults (18+ years) are consuming too much sugar. PLUS 53% of Australians are only brushing ONCE a day! Your poor teeth 😫 Getting bathed in sugary acids that break down your tooth structure and half the time never been cleaned.

LETS:
1. Let’s brush x2 a day
2. Let’s clean between our teeth with floss
3. Limit our sugar intake for a better diet
4. Visit a dentist regularly (every 6 months) for your check-ups

A filling that was performed @ our clinic in 1995 cost $70. Our dear Dr Nina told the patient to just ‘drop the remaining $20 when your in the area next time”, as the patient really needed treatment. Fast forward to 2020 and the dear patient has remembered Nina’s kindness.
