The 2026 Roland Bryant Cup is a wrap!

As a proud major sponsor, the Avant Dental Lab team was there to witness the fierce competition as the next generation of clinicians went head-to-head. Congratulations to USYD on taking out the title this year!

Supporting the future of Australian dentistry is important to Avant, and the Roland Bryant Cup is just one of the ways we’re involved. See you in 2027!

ANTHONY LOCASTRO’S CASE OF THE MONTH | Anthony is our Senior Technician (Head of Implants) at our full-service dental lab. This month, he was delighted to work on a 6-unit feldspathic porcelain veneer case from teeth 13 to 23 for a patient with high aesthetic demands.

Treatment planning began with a digital wax-up and temporary veneers. This allowed the patient to preview and approve the final shape and length before any definitive work was completed. Preparation was kept strictly within enamel, conserving as much natural tooth structure as possible, with supragingival margins throughout.

Feldspathic porcelain was chosen for its ability to replicate the translucency and natural light behaviour of enamel, making it the gold standard for anterior aesthetics. Close collaboration with our ceramist, supported by detailed shade mapping and characterisation notes, ensured the final restorations blended seamlessly with the surrounding dentition, and the patient was absolutely thrilled with the result.

Keep smiling 🙂

Avant Dental attended the Australian Asian Association of Dentists dinner in Sydney earlier this month, joining a room full of dedicated clinicians invested in their profession and their community.

Our own Hazel represented the Avant team on the night, connecting with peers and supporting an event that brings together some of the best minds in Australian dentistry.
A standout moment was the guest speaker session, with Dr Kareen Mekertichian delivering a compelling presentation, "From First Bite to First Fall: Caries & Trauma in Pre-schoolers." A great reminder of why continuing education matters and how much there is still to learn and share.

Congratulations to the AAAD on another wonderful event. We look forward to continuing our support and connection with this incredible community.

We are thrilled to announce that Kylie Harris from Avant Dental is the recipient of the 2026 Women in Dentistry Scholarship.

The scholarship was presented by Tanya McRae-Klein, ADIA NSW Branch President, at the Women in Dentistry Breakfast during Sydney 2026. This recognition is a true reflection of Kylie's dedication and contribution to the profession, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of the Avant Dental team.

The event was also a valuable opportunity for us to contribute to the profession, with the Avant Dental team delivering two Learning Labs focused on supporting dental clinicians with quality continuing education.

We were equally inspired by keynote speaker Dr Bronwyn King AO, founder of the Tobacco-Free Finance Pledge, whose message on professional courage and the importance of women championing one another resonated deeply with everyone in the room.

Congratulations again, Kylie. A well-deserved honour.

BLOG | In the first in our four part series on Intraoral Scanning, we explore the fundamentals of capturing accurate digital impressions. While intraoral scanners produce highly detailed 3D images, the reliability of the scan still depends on technique. Clear margins, effective moisture control and steady, consistent wand movement all play an important role in achieving precise results.

REDUCTION COPINGS offer a simple chairside solution when undercuts or limited occlusal clearance appear during crown and bridge preparations, particularly in hard to access posterior areas.

Placed over the prep, the coping acts as a guide, highlighting where reduction is needed. Simply adjust the areas that protrude until they sit flush with the coping to help eliminate undercuts, improve the path of insertion and achieve adequate clearance. The real advantage is efficiency. By refining the prep immediately, you can often avoid bringing the patient back for re-prep and complete the cementation in the same appointment.

Speak with the Avant Dental team if you’d like to incorporate reduction copings into your workflow.
