1. Brushing your teeth breaks your fast: of course not. You are neither ingesting the toothpaste nor swallowing the water. Don’t you rinse your mouth with water when performing ablution?
2. If you use a miswak your breath will smell: not true, the miswak contains compounds that are 20 times more effective at killing bad bacteria than ordinary toothpaste.
3. Having dental treatment will break your fast: not unless you purposely swallow the water, it’s all about your intentions.
4. Bad breath is unavoidable whilst fasting: it’s avoidable if you brush, floss & tongue scrape after suhoor and after iftar (before you sleep). Keeping hydrated is also vital in preventing halitosis. Reduce consumption of sugary drinks and caffeinated drinks as they increase thirst. Adding electrolytes to your water increases hydration but consume through a straw, as some electrolytes are acidic.
