Are your teeth feeling more sensitive, or appearing longer than before?

This may be a sign of gum recession, a common dental condition where the gums gradually pull back and expose the tooth roots. This often leads to sensitivity, discomfort while brushing, and pain with cold or coarse foods.

Gum recession can result from several factors, including aggressive brushing, hard toothbrushes, thin gum tissue, or untreated gum disease. If inflammation progresses, it can also affect the supporting bone, leading to further gum loss.

One effective treatment option is gum grafting, where healthy tissue—usually taken from the palate—is used to cover the exposed roots and restore the gum line.

A natural-looking aesthetic crown can make all the difference in a smile.

Not everybody desires the perfect Hollywood smile, but having a pleasant smile without major changes in color in the anteriors is—shade change difference in the anteriors is essential to a pleasing smile. And this patient did not want a major aesthetic transformation, but this front crown was stopping her from smiling.

So sometimes it was just one crown that was changed that achieved the patient’s goals. Not every patient has the same goals, and we have to treat the person’s desires, not our desires.

Dr. Kaavya provides comprehensive dental care for children and teenagers, from preventive visits and tooth-colored treatments to crowns, root canal treatment for children’s teeth, and care for young permanent teeth affected by Molar Incisor Hypoplasia.

Her work also includes early orthodontic support, such as space maintainers, arch expansion, crossbite correction, habit management, and minor tooth movement. She manages dental trauma, performs selected minor laser procedures, and provides myofunctional therapy for children and teenagers.

She is also experienced in treating children with special needs and providing dental care under conscious sedation or general anesthesia when needed.

Dr. Kaavya brings both clinical depth and academic credibility as a Life Member of the Indian Society of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, with research published in PubMed-indexed journals.

She speaks English and Hindi.
