I’ve spent many Ramadans away from family throughout university and work.
Some of my fondest memories are of friends, Muslim and non-Muslim, joining me for Iftar. Sitting together. Sharing a meal. Praying and being grateful together.
In those moments, it was never about labels. It was about unity, about sharing something meaningful together, and I remember each of those evenings and am grateful to everyone who was present with me 🤍🤲🏼
This isn’t only about supporting your fasting colleague.
It’s about taking interest in something that matters to someone else.
The same way that as a Muslim, my neighbors who celebrate Christmas, I would always get them a gift. It’s not a holiday that I celebrate. But I care about my neighbors. And if it’s important to them, then it matters to me.
That is how relationships are built
And in a time where Islam is often misunderstood, and where this month can sometimes be met with ignorance instead of curiosity, choosing to lean in rather than turn away matters more than you realize…
Be curious. Ask your fasting colleague about their fast. Ask to join them for Iftar. I promise you, they would be more than happy to share the beauty of this month with you🥰
Cultural awareness begins with simple curiosity 🤍
