Just like we all have different hair and skin color, people also have different tooth color.

Maybe your teeth have yellowed over time. Or you're not happy with the staining that results from drinking coffee, tea or cola. Whatever your reason for wanting whiter teeth, you're not alone.

💎 Here are many reasons for whitening your teeth, including:

· The boost to your confidence and self-esteem that comes from a great smile

· A younger appearance

· A special event such as a wedding, job interview or class reunion

· To make a positive first impression on others

· To simply reverse years of everyday staining and yellowing

Before beginning any whitening procedure, be sure to consult with your dentist to see whether you're a candidate. 🤍

Yes, a plant-based diet is optimal for health but how does it affect your dental health? 🥦🍅🍄

While gum disease seems to be less prevalent in vegans, high levels of enamel erosion and cavities seem to be on the rise. Removing dairy and meat from one's diet can result in nutrient deficiencies if one is not mindful of their nutrient intake.

Here are the main deficiencies to be aware of:

🔸️ Calcium deficiency: can result in a higher risk of gum disease and tooth decay; substitute by drinking non-dairy beverages fortified with calcium (e.g. orange juice, soymilk) or by eating tofu, edamame & kale

🔸️Vitamin B deficiency: can lead to gum disease and tooth loss; substitute with spinach, almonds, bagels, and pasta

🔸️ Iron deficiency: can lead to mouth sores or tongue irritation; substitute with dark leafy greens, peas, nuts, some dried fruits and cereals

🔸️ Vitamin D deficiency: this vitamin is essential for calcium absorption and for strengthening your bones and teeth; substitute with mushrooms or fortified tofu, almond milk, and plant-based supplements

🔸️ Arginine deficiency: helps prevent cavities and gum disease and is often found in meat, poultry, and dairy; substitute with pumpkin seeds, lentils, and chickpeas

It can be tough, but don't give up!

🔸️ Eat a well-balanced diet with all of the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs.

🔸️ Avoid acidic and sugary foods (even if they are vegan-friendly).

🔸️ Avoid frequent snacking.

🔸️ Keep up with your daily brushing and flossing routine.

Why let your smile limit you?

A healthy, beautiful smile brings out the real, amazing, confident you. This lovely patient was ecstatic about the results obtained with this mini smile makeover. Just imagine the effect on her self-esteem and mood..how would you feel if this was you?

With so much emphasis today on how we look, and yes I'm talking about the anti-aging craze, fillers and botox, I don't understand why people would still neglect their smiles and, most importantly, their oral health.

Our teeth are meant to stay with us for our entire lives - and I strongly disagree with blaming it on bad genes and on your parents. And it's not about finances either in my opinion.. it's about priorities..especially in this consumer-driven city of Dubai.

Neglect gets expensive, not dentistry.

So prevention is key - and that means understanding and fixing your oral health issues before symptoms even begin. Painless cavities, heavy staining, bleeding gums, bad mouth odor, and crooked teeth are not okay. It's all about your actions towards your health and we have the experience, latest knowledge, and tools today to deliver amazing results.

Always welcoming new patients and their families and friends 💙

Amazing oral hygiene yet your gums bleed? 😑

I really believe many women don't know this, but pregnancy affects your gums! Why?

Well, your body goes through massive changes during pregnancy – hormone levels change quite a bit and may increase the number of harmful bacteria in the mouth.

So yes, pregnancy predisposes women to gingivitis (or gum inflammation and bleeding).

Noticing that one tooth is simply darker than the others?

Tooth discoloration is often due to extrinsic or intrinsic stains.

🔹️ Extrinsic stains are usually related to our diet or to smoking.

▪️ Brown stains are a result of coffee, to***co, red wine, and chocolates.
▪️ Green and orange stains can be due to tartar buildup.

🔹️ Intrinsic stains come from within the tooth itself.

▪️Grayish-blue to brownish-yellow stains can be from tetracycline staining (an antibiotic type taken when the tooth was developing).

▪️ White patches on the tooth that look chalky can indicate too much exposure to fluoride (aka fluorosis).

▪️ Grayish-black stains can suggest cavities developing from within the tooth.

▪️ If the pulp or nerve of the tooth dies, such as from trauma or deep caries, the tooth can turn black or brown.

🔹️ All of the above discolorations may not necessarily cause any symptoms (no pain/sensitivity). However, it does not mean that the condition is not worsening with time.

It is important to have your teeth checked at least once a year (recommendation is every 6 months) to catch disease early and have it treated before it is too late.

😷 Remember, neglect is expensive, NOT preventative care.
