Brushing a child's teeth is not the same at every age. Here is what to do and when. π¦·πΆ
The technique, the tools, and the amount of toothpaste all change as a child grows β and getting them wrong in the early years can affect the teeth that are still developing underneath.
Before any teeth appear, cleaning the gums with a damp cloth after feeds removes bacteria and gets the child used to the sensation. When the first tooth erupts, a soft-bristled toothbrush takes over. Fluoride toothpaste is introduced in small amounts β a rice grain until age 3, a pea-sized amount from age 3 to 6. Supervision continues until the child has the motor skills to clean effectively on their own, usually around age 7 to 8.
At Dental Studio Tecom, Dr. Suhel Dabawala guides parents through the right approach for each stage β and adjusts the advice as the child grows.
