📢💥HILLS I WILL DIE ON AS A BOARD-CERTIFIED ORTHODONTIST🏔️📢
1. Expanders are not a magic solution
Palatal expanders are a great tool when they’re needed. Too often they’re recommended as a one-size-fits-all fix, but without a clear diagnosis, indication, and proper timing, they can do more harm than good.
2. Your healthcare decisions should not be reduced to social media sound bytes
Social media is full of hot orthodontic takes - frankly from influencers and others that have financial incentive to get clicks, views, and likes with gotcha headlines and rage bait fear mongering that confuses patients and their families. Your questions and concerns deserve a real consultation with a board-certified orthodontist, not a 15-second TikTok or reel.
3. Sometimes the best treatment is no treatment
One of the essential parts of orthodontic treatment planning is TIMING. Not every condition needs immediate intervention; montoring growth and development can help make treatment the most effective and efficient exactly when it is needed. Part of being an orthodontist is knowing when not to intervene yet and being honest enough to tell patients that.
4.. Treatment is not sold — we are not a car dealership
Orthodontic care is a healthcare decision, not a sales transaction. If you ever feel pressured into starting treatment on the spot, that’s a red flag. The right practice will give you time, information, and zero pressure.
