Average Joe's Walking Sticks I am a creator and purveyor of one of a kind handmade walking sticks and refurbished vintage canes. Originally, the sticks were split by hand.

I also make other unique items from repurposed tobaco sticks and a variety of other interesting tchotchkes. The tobacco stick (AKA “baccer” stick) is essential to tobacco farms in the south and east part of the U.S. They are used in the fields to collect the plants that are speared onto them. After being left in the field to dry a few days, they are collected by wagon. The recently harvested tobacco plants are hung from the barn rafters to dry. Tobacco sticks served many purposes on the farm because of their availability, shape, strength, and standard size. These can be very old. Over time, they began to be sawn. You can see the saw teeth marks on many of these types. Typically, each end was shaped to a point, to allow them to be stuck into the ground, and the plants to be speared onto them. Tobacco sticks were stored in the barns and reused over and over for many years. Today, these sticks are commonly repurposed for walking sticks and a variety of rustic craft items. All Average Joe’s Walking Sticks are branded with a roman numeral three (III) on one end of the stick. Average Joe’s tobacco sticks come from farms in Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana.
