𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗨𝗝𝗜 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮?
Ari Davis’s passion for matcha sparked a journey that took her all the way to Kyoto, Japan, where she sourced ceremonial-grade matcha from award-winning, sixth-generation tea farmers. Seeing a gap in matcha quality and awareness within her community, Ari founded BUJI Matcha in June 2025—transforming a personal ritual into a brand focused on quality, consistency, and the power of genuine connection.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗶?
Her mission is rooted in uplifting women, drawing inspiration from her own upbringing surrounded by strong women—especially her mother, whose dedication to lifting others set the foundation for everything Ari builds. Through community-driven events, BUJI Matcha brings women together to inspire confidence, foster connection, and celebrate a sense of belonging.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀:
🍵 Ari is the mother of a 4-year-old daughter (her “twin”), Chrome.
🍵 She hosts pop-ups each week that attract hundreds, uniting a vibrant community around matcha and women’s empowerment.
🍵 Ari also runs STRIPT, a mission-driven women’s apparel brand she launched while finishing law school during the pandemic.
🍵 She & her family are proud Howard University alumni, and Ari is a magna cm laude graduate of Howard University School of Law.

Meet the Owner: Kevin Nguyen of @

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝘆𝗿𝘂 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮?
After an eye-opening trip to Japan, Kevin realized how much intention, care, and ingredient quality shaped the matcha experience there—something he felt was missing back home. Inspired to share that sense of craftsmanship in his own city, he launched Kyru Matcha: a pop-up that brings authentic, creative, and carefully crafted matcha to his community, all with his own unique influences.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻?
For Kevin, it’s all about creativity and connection. He finds inspiration in both his Vietnamese heritage and the natural world, drawing on everything from traditions and food memories to color palettes and tasting notes. The support, feedback, and energy from his community at every event keep him going, even when things get tough.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀:
🍵 The name “Kyru” comes from Kai, Kevin’s favorite character from Beyblade.
🍵 Kevin has no formal barista background—everything he’s learned has been through experimentation (and plenty of honest mistakes!).
🍵 His trusty intern? Oreo the Shichon dog—she doesn’t help much with workflow but is a pro at boosting morale.

Kevin’s vision goes beyond drinks: he sees Kyru as part café, part lifestyle brand, and part shared space for community connection. Growth for Kyru is always intentional and authentic, staying true to his motto: Community > Competition.

Born from her love of coffee, tea, and the comforting vibe of coffee shops, Victoria started Twelve Twenty to create a welcoming space where everyone feels at home. For Victoria, bringing people together over a great cup is personal—right down to the business name, inspired by her own birthday. Building this mobile coffee shop gave her the freedom to honor her passions, support her health, and reflect her values.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮?
She’s passionate about supporting other small businesses, especially those run by women and fellow minorities. Collaborating, sharing space, and growing together are at the heart of everything she does.

Celeste was born from a simple love of matcha and a spark of creativity between co-founders Best and Noon. In early 2025, Noon returned from Japan inspired by the matcha culture and shared her excitement with Best, whose background in hospitality, bartending, and mixology made the perfect pairing. Their careers took different paths, but their passion for dreaming up beautiful, flavorful drinks never faded. Together, they launched Celeste as a way to blend their strengths—offering pop-up experiences where every cup reflects their creativity and connection.
