What's a periodontist? A question that clears up a lot of confusion.

Dr. Abron explains: a periodontist completes an additional three years of training after dental school. That training covers gum recession, bone loss, and infection around your teeth. Missing one tooth? Don't do this, do this.

Don't grind down healthy teeth for a bridge. Don't leave the gap and hope. Don't let the jawbone shrink.

Ever notice gum recession showing up on your lower front teeth first?

You're not imagining it. Dr. Abron explains why: the tissue there is naturally thinner, and those teeth go through the most movement and root repositioning during orthodontic treatment — which is why recession so often shows up after braces or aligners. If you've finished ortho and noticed your gums pulling back, it's worth getting checked by a periodontist.
