I've been a dentist for 13 years and I'd never do these 3 things to my teeth 🦷

1. Chew or suck on lemons 🍋
2. Chew ice regularly 🧊
3. Wait until the pain gets really bad to see a dentist 😶

At Blue Wave Dental, we're not just here to fix problems, we're here to help you avoid them in the first place. Small habits can make a huge difference in the long run and your future smile will thank you 😃

I named Blue Wave Dental after the most calming place on earth for a reason 🌊

I wanted to build something that felt nothing like what you'd expect from a dentist's office. The ocean has a way of making everything feel a little calmer and that's the exact feeling I set out to bring here. From the moment you walk through our doors, I want you to feel it too 😌

Not your average Walnut Creek dental office. 🌊

We've created a modern dental experience at Blue Wave Dental that feels calm, welcoming, and refreshingly different.

Inspired by Dr. David’s love for surfing and the peaceful energy of the ocean, our Eichler-style dental office was thoughtfully designed to help patients feel relaxed from the moment they walk through the door. 🏄‍♀️

Whether you're visiting for preventive care, cosmetic dentistry, or your routine dental cleaning, our goal is simple: comfortable, personalized dental care in a space that feels more like a retreat than a traditional dentist’s office.

How long do dental implants actually last? 🦷

We get this question all the time.

While the dental implant itself is designed to last for decades (even a lifetime!), and the implant crown can last just as long, they still require maintenance.
Occasionally, an implant crown might come loose. Usually, it’s just the internal screw that holds the crown to the implant that needs to be tightened or replaced. 🛠️
However, in this rare case, a patient came in with a loose crown, and after removing it, I discovered the actual implant had fractured. While this is uncommon, it can happen.
There are many reasons why an implant might break, such as:
• Excessive biting force: Heavy grinding or clenching (bruxism) can stress the metal over time.
• Improper sizing: Using a small-diameter implant in an area with high chewing pressure.
• Bone loss: If the surrounding bone recedes, it leaves the implant without the support it needs to handle daily wear and tear.

Whether you are looking for a permanent tooth replacement or need an evaluation of an existing restoration, understanding the “why” behind your oral health is the first step to a long-lasting smile.

Have you ever felt a dental crown wiggle?

Not all crowns are created equal and the difference is in the details.

Custom staining is what takes a crown from “looks like a crown” to “looks like a real tooth.” Every natural tooth has its own unique blend of color, translucency, and character. If we skip this step, restorations can look flat, too white, or just…off.

By custom staining, we’re able to:
• Match the exact shade of your surrounding teeth
• Add natural depth and translucency
• Mimic subtle characteristics like grooves and texture
• Create a seamless, undetectable result

This is especially important for front teeth, but honestly, it matters everywhere. Because even when no one can point out why something looks good, they can certainly tell when it does not look good.

Dentistry is both science and art and this is where the artistry really shows.

Emergency Tooth Extraction with PRF 🦷

This patient came in with a fractured tooth that could not be saved and was causing significant discomfort. After evaluating the tooth, we performed an emergency extraction to remove the source of pain and infection.

To support faster and more comfortable healing, we used PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin). PRF is created from the patient’s own blood and is rich in growth factors that help reduce inflammation, improve healing, and support bone and tissue regeneration after an extraction.

Using PRF with bone grafts can be especially beneficial when planning for a future dental implant, as it helps preserve the site and optimize healing.

Call us to get you out of pain.

Goldfish are ok every once in a while but too often means we’re going to be best friends. It took a good 30 minutes for all the barnacles to come off my teeth and by then, the bacteria were stuffed! What’s your favorite snack?
