My Hygiene Hype

10/07/2026

A little late, but definitely worth celebrating!

I’ve been traveling and finally made it home, so I’m catching up on National Dental Hygiene Month!

Every October, we celebrate the amazing work of dental hygienists and the importance of prevention, daily oral care, and overall oral health.

I’m incredibly thankful for the many hygienists I’ve had the privilege of knowing throughout my career. You’ve inspired me to be better, do better, and keep raising the bar!

To all of the incredible dental hygienists out there—THANK YOU for all you do!

And to my Hygiene Hype community, I’m so happy you’re here! Let’s keep celebrating our profession and the amazing people who make it what it is.

Happy National Dental Hygiene Month!

Are you keeping score in your practice?

Imagine watching a football game...or a soccer match...without knowing the score.
It wouldn't be nearly as exciting, would it?

The same is true in your hygiene department.

If you're not tracking your metrics, how do you know if you're winning? How do you know where you can improve? And how do you celebrate the progress your team is making?

Know your fluoride percentage.
Know your periodontal therapy percentage.
Track your treatment acceptance.
Measure the care you're providing—not just the procedures you're completing.
Metrics aren't about pressure—they're about purpose.

When you know your numbers, you can identify opportunities, celebrate successes, coach where needed, and continually elevate the care you provide your patients.

Don't just play the game...

Keep score. Learn. Improve. Win.

What metric does your office track that has made the biggest impact?

Do you use chairside resources to help educate your patients?

One of the best ways to increase patient understanding—and treatment acceptance—is by using simple, visual educational tools during appointments.

Did you know Philips offers a collection of FREE chairside patient education resources? They cover a variety of oral health topics and can help make conversations easier, more engaging, and more impactful.

Great patient education doesn't have to be complicated—it just has to be clear.

Check out the resources here:

Have you used any of these resources in your practice? I'd love to hear which ones are your favorites!

Did you miss it? 👀

If you weren't able to join us live, "Beyond the Numbers: What Periodontal Charting Is Actually Telling You" is now available to watch on the ALTA Voice website!

In this webinar, we dive into why comprehensive periodontal charting is about so much more than probing depths. We discuss how recession, bleeding, furcations, mobility, and other clinical findings tell the story of your patient's periodontal health—and how thorough charting leads to better diagnosis, stronger patient communication, and improved care.
I'd love for you to take a listen and let me know what you think!

"A smile is the only curve that sets everything straight." 😊

As dental professionals, aren't we incredibly fortunate? Every day, we have the opportunity to brighten smiles, build confidence, and positively impact someone's health and self-esteem.

Never underestimate the power of what you do. A healthier smile can change far more than a person's appearance—it can change how they feel about themselves.

Keep making the world brighter... one smile at a time.

👋Hi there! I'm back!

After some much-needed time away with my family, I thought it would be the perfect time to reintroduce myself.

I'm Sandi, founder of Hygiene Hype.

I have 40 years of experience in dental hygiene—
• 32 years providing chairside patient care
• 8 years supporting and leading hygiene teams in the DSO world.

Throughout my career, one thing has always remained the same...
I absolutely love empowering, elevating, and encouraging dental hygienists.

When I led hygiene teams, one of my favorite things was sending a Monday Update every week filled with clinical tips, continuing education opportunities, new products, communication ideas, and a little encouragement to start the week.

That's exactly why I created Hygiene Hype.

This page is my way of continuing to support our amazing dental community by sharing:
✨ Clinical pearls
✨ Continuing education opportunities
✨ Leadership and communication tips
✨ Products and resources
✨ Team culture ideas
✨ A little motivation along the way

If you find value here, I'd be honored if you shared this page with your fellow hygienists, dentists, assistants, and dental office teams. The more we learn together, the stronger our profession becomes.

And if there's ever a topic you'd like me to cover or a challenge you're facing in your practice...
Send me a DM! I'd love to hear from you.

I'm so happy to be back and can't wait to continue this journey with all of you!

💜 Sandi
