*Update* Please be advised that there were some changes in the living dynamics at the H4FW that came about as of October 2016. As we all know sometimes human activities and the parting of ways can disrupt things. Please know that all the animal companions have adjusted well and are loved, happy and cared for. One of the dogs (Shaggy) and some of the cats now reside at a different home with the other human. The rest of us now live in another part of CT and are doing great. Life is a journey and things change, it's just important that we all care for our animal companions in the process. Thank you for your understanding, ongoing support and love it means the world. Love, Kim
Many of my rescue cats are older (16) and require ongoing, long-term care for various ailments. Others are younger (5) but come with various behavioral issues. Many of them need special food to address various illnesses, allergies, and medical conditions. They have two main vets, traditional vet care, homeopathy and a specialist who does acupuncture and chiropractic care for those in need. Yum-Yum (rescue cat) and Petey (rescue dog) go to acupuncture and chiropractor every 4 weeks. Yum-Yum for IBD and other issues and Petey for poor mobility and back issues. Petey was in a domestic violence home prior to being rescued off death row and adopted. Finnegan (rescue dog) has been joining him on and off for knee issues. Many of my animals have had major dental issues, and full mouth extractions so they eat mainly wet food. The daily requirements - food, litter, supplements, bedding, cat trees, snacks, toys are always in high demand. Wu Kitty is my semi-feral book star who has a short story in an anthology that came out in March 2017 called Rescued: Volume 2: The Healing Stories of Twelve Cats Through Their Eyes (human author: Kim Fleck) lol. Some of the proceeds go to support rescue and the group she picked was Boston Forgotten Felines. Other cats like Basil have hyperthyroid issues and many behavior cats like The Count. All VERY much loved and spoiled. I have committed my life to rescuing, fostering, transporting and caring for our nation's abused, neglected and tossed aside animal companions for many, many years. I have worked in rescue for almost two decades. I have volunteered all over New England as well as at Best Friends in Kanab, Utah and played various roles in the rescue community: volunteer, foster parent, trap-neuter-return efforts for ferals, spay and neuter clinics, newsletters, fundraising, humane education, community outreach, transporting, home visit volunteer, feral cat feeder, legislative efforts, blogger, social media, art work, photography, short story author and, of course, adopter. Today because of my own health journey I am more involved in legislative, pilot programs for animals in domestic violence situations, humane education, fundraising and promoting other rescue groups through social media, books and the arts. I am no longer trapping or take in anymore animals because of personal health issues and a change in housing dynamics but I will care for all those with me now and continue to always be involved in animal rescue efforts. If you wish to send along a treat or birthday gift from time to time for the furries that would be great. They have an Amazon wishlist and thank you.
