🆃🆁🅸🅲🅺 or 𝓣𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽? 👻
Let’s face it: not all candy is created equal!❕
We all know the sugar contributes to cavity formation, but did you know there are some candies us dentists would rather you eat than others? 🧐
😇 Treats 🍬
𝓒𝓱𝓸𝓬𝓸𝓵𝓪𝓽𝓮 - Melts in your mouth and doesn’t stick to your teeth. Dark chocolate is best, but milk chocolate isn’t a bad runner up.
𝓝𝓾𝓽𝓼 - They’re a good source of fiber, protein and healthy fats. They also break up the stickiness of the candy.
𝓢𝓾𝓰𝓪𝓻-𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓮/𝓧𝔂𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓸𝓵 - Xylitol is what makes those sugar-free candies taste like nothing is missing. Plus, they help you salivate and keep your mouth feeling fresh.
👿 Tricks: 🍭
🆂🆃🅸🅲🅺🆈 - The stickier the candy, the worse it is for your teeth. It sticks in all of the grooves and crevices, so it’s harder to brush off and cavities can easily form. If you’re picking the candy out of your teeth, (think: Butterfingers 😩), then it’s no good! 🙅🏻♀️
🆂🅾🆄🆁 - Decreases the pH of saliva making it more acidic, which accelerates the breakdown of enamel (the hard white part of your tooth that protects it). Sorry to say, but Sour Patch Kids are the bullies your teeth never wanted to hang with.🏃🏻♂️💨👹
🅷🅰🆁🅳 - Hard candy is bad for two reasons: 1) Chewing it (who ACTUALLY counts how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie roll pop?) can break teeth and 2) Hard candies linger in the mouth, so the longer exposure to sugar is more harmful to your teeth. There’s nothing Jolly about those Jolly ranchers 😡
What’s your favorite candy? Personally, I’m torn between Reese’s and Twix 😍
