In 1975, Dr. Jessica A. Rickert, a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, became the first Native American woman dentist in the United States.

Her achievement marked an important milestone in the history of dentistry and helped pave the way for greater Indigenous representation in the profession. At the time, she was only the second American Indian dentist in the country, following Dr. George Blue Spruce Jr., who graduated from dental school in 1956.

Today, we recognize Dr. Rickert's place in dental history and the importance of making healthcare professions more accessible to future generations.

Baby teeth may be small, but they have a big job.

They help children eat, speak, learn how to care for their smiles, and make room for the permanent teeth that come later. So when we care for little teeth, we're thinking beyond the tooth in front of us.

Parents have more choices than ever when it comes to their child’s dental care, but knowing what those choices actually mean can be confusing.

Fluoride has decades of research supporting its role in strengthening enamel and helping prevent cavities. It also provides stronger protection for teeth than any other remineralizing option. Hydroxyapatite is a mineral naturally found in teeth and has also been studied for its role in supporting enamel remineralization.

So, which one is right for your child?

Your child’s age, dental development, cavity risk, and individual needs can all be part of the conversation.
