When dental treatment feels overwhelming, general anesthesia may be an option for some children.
General anesthesia may be considered for children who are very young, experience severe dental anxiety or fear, have special healthcare or developmental needs, require extensive dental treatment, or are unable to safely complete treatment while awake.
Every child is different, which is why general anesthesia is recommended only after careful evaluation of the child’s health, age, behavior, and dental needs.
At Pediatric Dentistry Asleep, the goal is to help make necessary dental treatment as safe, comfortable, and stress-free as possible for children and their families.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honor the history, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous communities across the United States.

This day is an opportunity to celebrate the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples, learn from their rich cultural heritage, and recognize the lasting impact they continue to have on our communities.

At Pediatric Dentistry Asleep, we value respect, inclusion, and compassionate care for every child and family we serve.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

World Mental Health Day is an important reminder that emotional well-being matters at every age.

For children, feeling safe, supported, and understood can make a meaningful difference in how they learn, grow, communicate, and face new experiences including dental visits.

At Pediatric Dentistry Asleep, we believe compassionate care starts with recognizing each child’s individual needs and creating an environment where families feel supported, respected, and cared for.

Today, we join communities around the world in encouraging kindness, understanding, and open conversations about mental health.

Starting oral care early can make a big difference in preventing childhood cavities.
Healthy habits can begin even before the first tooth appears. Gently clean a baby’s gums, brush teeth twice a day once they erupt, limit frequent sugary snacks and drinks, and make oral care part of the daily routine.
A child’s first dental visit should take place when the first tooth appears, or no later than the first birthday, helping establish healthy habits from the very beginning.
Small steps today can help protect healthy smiles for years to come.

“They’re just going to fall out anyway…”
We hear it all the time, but baby teeth have an important job to do until they’re ready to go.
Baby teeth help:
-Hold space for permanent teeth and help guide them into position.
- Support speech development and help children speak clearly.
- Make chewing easier so children can eat comfortably.
- Support a healthy smile, which is an important part of a child’s quality of life.
- Build confidence. Untreated cavities can affect a child’s health, development, comfort, and how they feel about smiling.
Healthy baby teeth are an important part of a child’s overall health and development.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling a child’s first dental visit when the first tooth appears, or no later than the first birthday.

Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Today, we celebrate the educators who inspire, encourage, and guide children every day. Teachers play such an important role in helping kids learn, grow, build confidence, and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

At Pediatric Dentistry Asleep, we are grateful for the patience, care, and dedication teachers bring to their classrooms and communities. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of children and families each day.

Wishing all teachers a wonderful and well-deserved World Teachers’ Day!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This month is an important reminder to raise awareness, support those affected by breast cancer, and encourage conversations around early detection and routine screenings.
At Pediatric Dentistry Asleep, we stand with patients, families, caregivers, survivors, and everyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer.
Together, we can help spread awareness, show support, and remind our communities that education and early action matter.
