Thanks for your flexibility over the past couple of weeks while Dr. H was out of the office filling some of his commitments to the Florida Dental Association. You may not know this, but Dr. H has several commitments outside the walls of the BWOSC clinic. He serves as the delegation chair for the Northwest District Dental Association to the greater Florida Dental Association House of Delegates and is also the district president of the Northwest District Dental Association. The Florida Dental Association consists of 6 districts to make up the state association - Northwest, Northeast, Central, Atlantic Coast, West Coast, and South Florida.

Dr. H also serves as a state delegate to the greater American Dental Association. This year, he was the delegate chosen to host a candidate for the election of the American Dental Association President-Elect to be voted on that the ADA annual session in Indianapolis this October. Interestingly, the candidate , Dr. Donald, was a fellow Mississippian that was a mentor dentist leader that Dr. H knew when he was so involved with organized dentistry in the Mississippi Dental Association while Dr. H was in dental school and served as the national president of the American Student Dental Association. Dr. Mark Donald is a general dentist from Louisville, Mississippi, who has served the past six years as the Speaker of the House for the American Dental Association House of Delegates and is now running to become the national President of the ADA.

Dr. H/Dr. Juggles/Uncle Sam (????? - whoever he is this week) loves his community and loves getting out there to do anything he can for the good of the community and the families that visit here and that call the Emerald Coast home!

Thanks to Grand Boulevard at Sandestin for hosting a great patriotic event at the Fountain Stage last night to kick off America's 250th Birthday Weekend; and thanks to Emerald Coast Theatre Company for always letting Blue Water Oral Surgery Center and Dr. H tag along and participate in so many of your events!!

Dr. H shared that the polyester Uncle Sam suit did not breath very well in the heat and humidity of the Emerald Coast; but it was worth it to see the faces on so many kids and on several of the adults that were having fun with Uncle Sam also!

Blue Water Oral Surgery Center is so grateful to have been scouted by the Scout Guide 30A-Destin as part of their Volume 4!

The launch party had an airplane theme with "Scout Air" and was held in a Hangar at the Destin Executive Airport. Every thing was so perfectly decorated to the extreme even the flight attendants with their snack carts and the plane in the Hangar as a backdrop for all the pics.

The Scout Guide is a nationwide network of locally curated print city guides and digital platforms dedicated to celebrating and supporting small businesses across the United States. It acts as an elevated directory, helping locals and travelers discover independent boutiques, makers, designers, and service providers.

To be featured as a member/advertiser, you have to be interviewed to make sure you fit as a business that the scout guide feels fits with their ideals for promoting local businesses. Hence, the statement, "you have been scouted" and approved!

There are about 90 cities nationwide with Scout Guides, so the thought is that as people visit or move to your area, the trusted source that they look to as the first place to find the best of the best and to live like a local is through referencing The Scout Guide.

Thank you so much Rocky Bayou Christian School (and Kirk Cousins) for dropping off such a special gift for BWOSC following the Blue and White Gala last month.

One of the event coordinators reached out to our office and personally thanked us for not only being a platinum sponsor for the event but for also donating a big silent auction item to help raise more funds even when we had no direct ties to Rocky Bayou Christian School with any of our own kids but rather through students who have been patients.

The special thank you that they dropped off at the clinic was an autographed football from the keynote speaker Kirk Cousins!!!!

Dr. H was overjoyed and has it on display behind the front desk for all to see!

Kirk Cousins may have recently become the 3rd highest earning NFL player of all time (surpassing Tom Brady) and only trailing Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers when he signed a one-year fully-guaranteed $20 million deal ($172 million over 5 years) with the Las Vegas Raiders to start in front of and mentor the #1 draft pick and Heisman winner, Fernando Mendoza; however, you would never know it to meet him. He is so humble and just normal and still sees his faith and sharing God's love with the world as his top priority in life over anything football or money-related.

He is a good old preacher's kid that continues to walk in the way that he was trained! He even shared a neat story about why he tries to always pick the number 8 if it is available on the teams that he joins (Atlanta already had a player with 8 so he went with 18 when he was there). During the NFL draft in 2012, there were several sought after quarterbacks alongside him and his preacher-dad reminded him of the story of the sons of Jesse being selected by the prophet Samuel to be anointed as the next king of Israel and the verse that says, "Do not consider his appearance or his height...the Lord looks not at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." He reminded Kirk that David was the last son of Jesse, his 8th son. In the 4th round of that 2012 draft as the 102nd overall pick, Kirk realized that he was the 8th quarterback picked but just because the world looked at outward appearance, being the 8th quarterback selected did not mean that God did not have a plan for him and his heart!

We can all learn a little something from that as we attack our lives each and every day!!

May was a busy month of volunteer/community service for Dr. H and BWOSC! Earlier in the month, you may have seen how Dr. H spent 2 days with the Florida Dental Association seeing patients at the Mission of Mercy event in Jacksonville. In the last 2 days of the month last weekend, Dr. H and one of his assistants, Joce Durette, spent two days in the Crestview High School gym volunteering to see patients with RAM ( AreaMedical - www.ramusa.org)! Dr. H was the only oral surgeon present at this event amongst several dentists so they kept him and Joce busy, but they loved every minute of it and then crashed after that!

In between those events, Dr. H saw oral surgery patients at the Crossroads Center- Medical, Dental, and Counseling Services (www.crossroadscenter.org) in Valparaiso on one Tueaday night like he does every month.

If you didnt know, Dr. H was in the ministry before going to dental school and helped start and direct a charity medical and dental clinic for Mission First, a ministry of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi (www
missionfirst.org). So, events and volunteer opportunities like these are the very reason that Dr. H went to dental school so they will always be an important part of his life! They don't tire him out but rather invigorate him and remind him why he wakes up to do dentistry every day!

Blue Water Oral Surgery Center had another great time sponsoring Comedy on the Boulevard at Emerald Coast Theatre Company last weekend!

All the comedians interacted with the BWOSC 4-foot implant and incorporated oral surgery jokes and stories better than ever before.

Dr. H even invited his good friend, Greg Gruber and his wife Angie who were visiting from Tallahassee. Dr. H even shared with the Comedy on the Boulevard team that Greg was a bit of a distinguished guest and "kind-of-a-big-deal" with the Florida Dental Association as CFO/COO! This was enough info to get Greg welcomed and in true comic fashion picked on a little bit from stage!

Can't wait for our next Comedy on the Boulevard on June 12th! Hope to sèe you there!
