Lucas arrived promptly this morning for his 8 AM appointment. When i commented how bright-eyed he looked at such an early hour, mom told me that he'd already been in school at 7:30, to receive his Principal's List certificate!!! .

I've talked and blogged about orthodontic retention often. This morning, we removed braces from a patient, and his mother was astonished that we suggested he wear retainers for as long as he wanted to have nicely aligned teeth. She said, as I have heard literally hundreds of times, "I had braces, I haven't worn a retainer in years, and my teeth look fine........" And they did look fine, just like I look fine, bald and 20 pounds overweight. But if 20 years ago someone had given me a magic cap and belt to wear every night to halt those processes, it would have been just as easy to do as wearing a retainer nightly is. But since I am not yet interested in about doing anything radical about these age-related changes, I am similar to the many people who are fine with imperfectly aligned teeth. Our office will continue to advise that nightly wear of a retainer is a habit that could become as natural and even less time consuming than brushing your teeth. If this morning's parent was told by her bloodletter in 565 AD about this new thing for her son that could ensure a lifetime of dental health, called "tooth brushing", would she have incredulously asked "he has to do this for the rest of his life?" I am asking you to SHARE THIS POST with your friends as an altruistic effort to educate teens and parents on the topic, and possibly even reassure people that ultimately, as time passes, retainer wear is a personal choice.

These guys have cut my hair since I was 10 years old. When they moved from Johnson Ave. to Riverdale Ave. it rocked my world. Seeing them each month is like returning to my childhood. Thank you, Joey and Nick.
