“I am not an owner dentist, I am not yet financially stable, old, and experienced enough to lead this group. Maybe this is a one time thing.”
These were my excuses as I prayed to God and prepared for the second , filled with self-doubt and anxiety. It’s only been 9 months since our first dental mission trip last year, and I was tired.
They say first time is the hardest with anything, but I think second time was harder.
It is easy to go on a dental mission trip just once. It’s harder to do it again, and again.
To prepare the supplies, check on the equipments, making sure we have enough of everything to do dental cleanings, fillings, root canal therapies, and extractions.
The invisible work leading up to the trip. Many meetings to coordinate. To finding amazing dentists & dental students to serve the marginalized in Dominican Republic in the middle of March together.
Somehow, God filled my cup with so much abundance.
I asked myself and to God if I should keep going.
I let go and let God. He answered, “yes.”
A group of 7 dentists, 6 dental students, & a non-dental volunteer. 14 members. Treated roughly 260 patients with procedures over 300+ over the course of 2.5 days.
Lives prayed. Prayers in return. Warm hugs. Banters and laughs.
Strangers coming for an encounter to not only receive dental treatment, but also experience the love of Christ.
What moved me the most this time were the stories of our mission team members.
Despite their own personal challenges and difficulties, they showed up and served the patients with so much kindness and love. Thank you for coming and serving and pouring your heart, not just to the patients but also to each other.
I got to come to DR and see God is good 🦷🌱✨
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18
