A bale of hay doesn't come with the same detailed nutritional label you'll find on a bag of commercial feed.
That doesn't mean every bale provides the same nutrition.
One grass hay may provide very different protein, calorie, fiber or major mineral levels than another—even if they look similar.
A forage analysis helps take some of the guesswork out of feeding by showing what your dried forage is actually contributing.
Once you know the foundation, you can make more educated decisions about:
Grain.
Ration balancers.
Vitamin/mineral supplementation.
Additional nutritional support.
This is especially true for when it comes to purchasing hay. Don't buy by the bale, buy by the ton. Purchase off a known weight, bale weights can range significantly, it all depends on the grower's practices and how they harvest the forage.
A bale is not equal to a bale, but a ton is equal to a ton.
Don't assume. Know your hay. We can help!
