You can set goals, make to-do lists, but if you don’t put them into action then they are only words.
//
Being overly ambitious leads to overwhelm. Choose 3 things each week & each day that you are going to do. Put the most important thing first no matter how long it will take you. Review your day the night before, & the morning of. Review and set up your week on Friday. And Review again Sunday night. This keeps you focused on the plan.
//
Do you do this? What routines do you use to stay focused on what’s most important?

Can you imagine trekking across the country in the 1840s? You’d have to be incredibly prepared & in good health, otherwise you just wouldn’t make it.... obviously today you don’t have to do things like that BUT there is a valuable lesson here.
>>>> If you don’t take care of yourself (mental health & physical health) the demands of practice ownership will take their toll. And it’s metaphorically like leaving on a trek while not being prepared or in good health.
//
Are you a healthy person? Do you do what healthy people do?
•Do you eat non-processed foods consistently?
•Do you exercise regularly?
•Do you have enough self awareness that if you struggle with sadness, anger, or whatever else that you go and see a mental health professional?
//
There is no reward for “toughing” things out, waiting until “tomorrow”. Start now. Start today. Take care of yourself, and you’ll be prepared for whatever lies ahead. ❤️

Do you make the time to work ON your business?
//
If you’re wondering what that means, I go into detail in the online course, but it means spending time on CEO responsibilities vs. seeing patients. Things like paying attention to the financial health of your business (overhead percentage & profit margin) are crucial to ensuring the business stays a float. Are you engaged with your responsibilities? Do you know what they are?
//
If this is something that you struggle with, don’t worry. You’re not alone. If you could spend time with me and get your questions answered, what would be your 2 most pressing questions?

Great teams invest their best efforts in the few activities that make up your practice’s results. These are called lead measures. Have you and your team brainstormed what your lead measures are?
//
Lag measures tell you if you have achieved your goal.

Lead measures tell you if you are likely to achieve your goal. Lead measures must be both predictive (if we get it done it will make our goal happen) and influenceable (something we have control over).

So for example: if you were a farmer and you wanted to grow more corn you might try to say that rain is a lead measure, because well-watered crops yields a bigger return. While rainfall is relatively predictable, it is not influenceable. We cannot make it rain. Thus, rainfall is not a good lead measure.

Acting on lead measures is important for performance.

What book is on your nightstand right now?
//
One of the books that I’m re-reading currently is “The 4 Disciplines of Execution”. And I love this book because it really dives into lead & lag measures. It’s really about focusing on the things that will move the important numbers in your business.
It’s definitely a must-read!

So tell me about your book!

Can I ask you a question? WHY do you do what you do?

Having a WHY that isn’t about money or success really ignites passion. It’s like a lighthouse guiding you to self-fulfillment. Profit isn’t a purpose, it’s a result that comes from delivering value. And purpose means the things we do are real value to others.
//
You can lead your team more effectively when you have a purpose. You can make better business decisions when you know your why. You can gain the confidence you need in the times you need it because you have a purpose to lean into.

Have you seen the movie “What About Bob”? Even though it’s a comedy about a phobic patient, the idea about taking ‘baby steps’ is spot on.
//
When you’re a business owner you want success like, yesterday. But the thing is: it takes time. It takes a series of micro adjustments (baby steps) to get you on the right trajectory.
//
I think part of the key is to acknowledge progress & celebrate that (vs. feeling disappointed you’re not where you want to be).
//
So what’s a baby step win that you’ve had this past week? Tell me in the comments below 👇👇👇

Ready to take some notes? Ok listen up: Can you tell me what the difference between a LAG & LEAD measure is?
//
Lag measures tell you if you have achieved your goal.

Lead measures tell you if you are likely to achieve your goal. Lead measures must be both predictive (if we get it done it will make our goal happen) and influenceable (something we have control over).
They measure new and different BEHAVIORS, and tracking behaviors is much harder than tracking results. But it’s behaviors that get you were you need to go.

If you only focus on lag measures, it’s too late to influence them because they’re in the past. You need to focus on the things that LEAD to the goal.
//
Now put it into action: So, if “New Patients Seen” is our lag measure, what behaviors could we get laser focused on that would lead to us seeing more new patients?

Can I share a secret with you? The real difference between successful dental practices & the ones that aren’t working is the CEO (aka you). Offices where the owner steps up the accountability, focus, and enthusiasm are also the ones that have a team who do that. But here’s the thing: the more dentists I’ve met, I’ve noticed that they just don’t know what to do, how to do it, or where to start..... and that’s where I come in. Let me teach you how to get your office humming.
//
I’ve taken all the practical things & put them into an online course making it incredibly CONVENIENT for you. But while I wrap up creating the final module, will you do me a favor? Pop over to the growth effect and take the quiz telling me what your biggest challenge is.
