🎉 A SMILE WORTH CELEBRATING!

One of the most rewarding parts of dentistry is seeing a patient complete treatment and leave our office smiling with confidence.

Dental implants are designed to replace missing teeth and provide stable support for crowns, bridges, or implant-supported dentures. For the right patient, they can help restore comfort, function, and a natural-looking smile.

Every patient is different. A proper examination and imaging help us determine which treatment options are appropriate for your individual needs.

If you’re struggling with missing teeth or loose dentures, we’d be happy to discuss your options.

COULD YOUR TOOTHPASTE BE TOO ABRASIVE?

Whitening toothpastes can help remove surface stains, but not every formula is the same. Some are more abrasive than others—and when combined with heavy brushing pressure, they may increase wear on exposed root surfaces and worsen sensitivity.

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, light pressure, and a fluoride toothpaste that fits your individual needs.

🥤 SODA IS TOUGH ON TEETH—even when it’s sugar-free.

Regular soda can affect your teeth in two ways:

• Sugar feeds the bacteria that cause cavities.
• Acid can gradually soften and wear away enamel.

Diet soda eliminates the sugar, but not necessarily the acid. Frequent sipping keeps your teeth exposed longer and can contribute to enamel erosion and sensitivity over time.

Protect your smile:

✓ Limit how often you drink soda.
✓ Avoid sipping it throughout the day.
✓ Use a straw and don’t swish it around your mouth.
✓ Rinse with plain water afterward.
✓ Wait about one hour before brushing.

Water remains the most tooth-friendly choice.

SUGAR-FREE DOESN’T MEAN ACID-FREE.

🦈 TWO ROWS OF TEETH? MEET THE “SHARK TEETH” STAGE!

This commonly happens when a permanent lower front tooth begins erupting behind a baby tooth that hasn’t fallen out yet.

The good news: It usually isn’t an emergency.

If the baby tooth is already loose, encourage your child to gently wiggle it. Once it falls out, the tongue may help guide the permanent tooth forward over time.

Schedule a dental examination if:

✓ The baby tooth isn’t becoming loose.
✓ The permanent tooth continues erupting behind it.
✓ Your child has pain or difficulty biting.
✓ There appears to be significant crowding.
✓ You’re simply unsure whether everything is progressing normally.

Depending on the tooth’s position and available space, we may recommend monitoring it or removing the retained baby tooth.

Don’t panic—but don’t ignore it either. We’re happy to take a look!

🕵️ THE “I FLOSS—I PROMISE!” CLUE

Notice the narrow vertical line through the buildup in the BEFORE photo?

That’s the path where floss recently passed. But the surrounding calculus tells the rest of the story.

Floss can remove soft plaque from between your teeth, but once that plaque hardens into calculus—or tartar—it requires a professional cleaning to remove it.

The lesson isn’t to floss furiously the night before your appointment. It’s to clean between your teeth thoroughly and consistently every day.

Haven’t flossed in a while? No judgment—today is a perfect day to restart.

THE FLOSS LINE DOESN’T LIE!

WHITE SPOTS ON YOUR TEETH?

Not all white spots mean the same thing.

Some are early areas of enamel demineralization caused by acids produced by plaque bacteria. Others may be related to fluorosis, developmental enamel changes, previous orthodontic treatment, or other conditions.

Risk factors for plaque-related white spots include:

✓ Plaque accumulation
✓ Frequent sugary foods and drinks
✓ Braces or other dental appliances
✓ Dry mouth or reduced saliva flow

The good news is that early, noncavitated areas may sometimes be stabilized or improved before they become cavities. Treatment depends on the cause and may include improved home care, fluoride, dietary changes, resin infiltration, microabrasion, or other options.

If you notice new or changing white spots, schedule an examination so we can determine what they are—and the most conservative way to manage them.

Do antibiotics CURE teeth needing ROOT CANALS?
Many people ask, “Once I take my antibiotics, I’ll be fine, right?”
The answer is no—and here’s why: The source of the infection is from inside the tooth and spreads into the surrounding bone and tissues. Antibiotics can help control the infection around the tooth, but they cannot reach or eliminate the bacteria inside the tooth itself. Once the antibiotics wear off, the infection often returns—and it can come back even stronger.

ARE YOU BRUSHING WITH SANDPAPER?

GUM RECESSION & WHITENING TOOTHPASTE. Whitening toothpaste (RDA>150) is abrasive like sandpaper. Whitening toothpaste is meant to be used only 1-2 times per week . Long term use can cause RECESSION and SENSITIVITY. Colgate Tartar Control's RDA is 200. Pronamel Sensodyne's RDA is 35-45. See your dentist if you're noticing gum recession and/or sensitivity.
