This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible strength, intuition, and love of moms, especially those who go the extra mile to support their baby’s health and comfort.

One of the most meaningful parts of our work is walking alongside families during their tongue tie journey. We recently had the privilege of helping a few dedicated moms and their babies through a tongue tie release in our office. With their persistence and care and a little guidance from our team their feeding experience transformed for the better.

From difficult latches and restless nights to smoother feeds and sweet, peaceful snuggles... it’s moments like these that remind us how powerful a mother’s love truly is.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there! You are all amazing! 💕💐

Could Your Baby Have a Tongue Tie? 🤱🍼

Tongue ties don’t just affect breastfeeding babies—they can make bottle feeding tricky too! Here’s what to watch for:

💡 Signs of Tongue Tie in Breastfed Babies:
✔️ Painful latch for mum (ni***es may feel pinched or misshapen)
✔️ Baby struggles to stay attached, frequently sliding off the breast
✔️ Clicking sounds while feeding
✔️ Frequent feeds but still unsettled
✔️ Slow weight gain

🍼 Signs of Tongue Tie in Bottle-Fed Babies:
✔️ Poor latch to the bottle
✔️ Clicking sounds or stopping & starting feeds
✔️ Excess dribbling or leaking milk from the sides
✔️ Taking a long time to finish a feed
✔️ Stops after a couple of ounces and struggles to continue
✔️ Difficult to reattach to the bottle after stopping

A tongue tie can make feeding frustrating for both you and your baby. After a full assessment by Dr. Kim, a frenectomy procedure is carried out if clinically indicated.

Myofunctional therapy is an important but often misunderstood treatment. Here are our main goals when treating for Myofunctional issues:

- Proper Tongue Posture: The tongue should naturally rest against the roof of the mouth. This position supports proper oral development, breathing, and swallowing.

- Nasal Breathing: Breathing through the nose filters air, regulates breathing rate, and promotes better oxygen absorption. It's crucial for facial development and overall health.

- Correct Swallowing Patterns: Many people swallow incorrectly, pushing their tongue against their teeth. Proper swallowing involves the tongue pressing against the palate, which supports dental alignment and speech.

- Orofacial Muscle Strength: The muscles of the face and mouth play a vital role in breathing, eating, and speaking. Strengthening these muscles can improve many aspects of oral function.

Myofunctional issues can affect many children of all ages. Understanding these goals can help you recognize potential problems in your children.
