My heart is so full. 💙 The sewing community here in Hilo has absolutely blown me away with their generosity. These beautiful handmade quilts are being donated for our dental mission trip to Ecuador this November, and I can’t thank everyone enough for the time, talent, and love that went into each one.
Many of you may not know that my family is from Ecuador. Since dental school, I’ve had the privilege of returning every year with family, friends, and colleagues to provide free dental care to communities with limited access to treatment.
A few years ago, some of my patients learned about the mission and asked how they could help. They, along with their incredibly talented sewing friends, started making quilts to bring with us. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into something truly extraordinary.
These quilts will be wrapped around children, new mothers, and families as reminders that they are loved and cared for. It’s such a beautiful example of how a community in Hilo can reach across the ocean and touch lives in Ecuador.
From the bottom of my heart, mahalo to every person who stitched, donated, and supported this effort. Your kindness is traveling thousands of miles and will make a lasting difference. ❤️🇪🇨🦷
