Crowding and overjet in the same case.

The before shows what happens when the arch runs out of room. Teeth rotate, overlap, and tuck behind each other, and the upper front teeth push forward because they have nowhere else to go. Those two problems feed each other, which is why fixing one without addressing the other tends to relapse.

The correction here came from clear aligners with a plan built around creating space first, then bringing the front teeth back into a proper relationship with the lowers.

A note on terminology, because it comes up at almost every consult. Most people say Invisalign. That's a brand, not the category. Clear aligners are the category and several systems compete in it. Angel Aligners is our system of choice for the fit and the finishing detail, though the right answer depends on your bite. Some cases genuinely do better in braces and we'll say so.

Treated at Elate by Dr. Julia Kang, DMD, and Dr. Kevin Baharvand, DMD, MS, Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, whose clinical work was selected for the cover of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

Severe spacing. Deep overbite. Treated with clear aligners. ✨

This Elate case shows what is possible when comprehensive aligner planning meets clinical expertise. The patient came in with significant spacing across the upper arch and a deep overbite. Both issues can affect bite function, long-term tooth wear, and confidence in the smile.

What aligner therapy accomplished. Closed the spacing to restore healthy tooth contacts and improved esthetics. Reduced the overbite to a healthy, functional relationship. Delivered a result that is beautiful and built to last.

Severe spacing cases are some of the most rewarding to treat because the visual transformation is significant. But the real win is the bite underneath the smile. That is the part that protects this result for years to come.

Treatment led by Dr. Kevin Baharvand, ABO Diplomate and AJO-DO cover clinician, alongside Dr. Julia Kang, Boston University graduate and JCO Resident of the Year finalist. Both members of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. In 2026, Elate Orthodontics earned dual recognition as D Magazine Best Dentist and Living Magazine Readers' Choice.

Walter, congratulations on finishing your aligners and stepping out with the smile you have been working toward. 🀍

One of our incredible Elate patients, Walter, just wrapped up his clear aligner journey and walked out of his final appointment grinning ear to ear. There is something special about that moment. The look in the mirror. The realization that the result is real. The pride that comes from knowing you put in the work to get there.

Walter showed up to every appointment, wore his aligners exactly the way our team coached him, and trusted the process from start to finish. That kind of commitment is what turns a treatment plan into an outcome like this one. We are so proud of him and so grateful he chose Elate to walk this journey alongside.

This is the part of orthodontics we love the most. The patients who trust us with their smiles. The families across Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, and The Colony who become part of the Elate community. The moments at the end of treatment when a patient like Walter sees their final result and lights up.

Treatment led by Dr. Kevin Baharvand, ABO Diplomate and AJO-DO cover clinician, alongside Dr. Julia Kang, Boston University graduate and JCO Resident of the Year finalist. That belongs to Walter.

Walter, thank you for trusting us. Now go show that smile off everywhere you go. ✨

This one made our entire team light up. ✨

Another beautiful Elate case using clear aligners to correct spacing combined with an edge-to-edge bite. When the upper and lower front teeth meet tip-to-tip instead of with proper overlap, it can affect both function and the long-term wear of the front teeth. Pair that with visible spacing throughout the arch, and you have a case that demands precision planning.

The result. Closed spaces. Proper front-tooth overlap. A bite that works as a system and a smile that looks the part.

This is the kind of case that proves what modern clear aligner therapy can do in experienced hands. Cases like this require careful attachment design, smart staging, and a clinician who knows how to push aligners to their full potential.

Look at the before image and find the lower teeth. Hard, right?

That's an overjet. The upper front teeth sit well ahead of the lowers horizontally, which is a different problem from an overbite even though people use the words interchangeably. Overbite is vertical overlap. Overjet is horizontal distance. This case had both, and the overjet was doing most of the damage.

Why it matters beyond looks: front teeth positioned that far forward take the hit in any fall or impact, and they're much harder to keep clean where the bite doesn't meet properly.

This was corrected with clear aligners. Worth saying plainly, since almost everyone calls them Invisalign: Invisalign is one brand in a category with several systems. We use Angel Aligners in most cases and prefer them for fit and finish, and we'll tell you honestly at the consult which route makes sense for your bite. Not every case is an aligner case.

Deep bite correction with braces. This is one of those cases that reminds you why full orthodontic treatment exists.

The patient came in with a severe deep bite, where the upper front teeth covered almost the entire lower front teeth when biting down. Not a mild overlap. A textbook example of what happens when a deep bite is left uncorrected for years. The lower incisors were biting into the tissue behind the upper teeth. The front teeth were wearing against each other in a way they should not. The bite was doing damage every single day the patient chewed food.

Here is what a lot of people do not know about deep bites. The problem is not just cosmetic. It is functional. Over time, an uncorrected deep bite can wear down the front teeth, contribute to jaw joint issues, and set the stage for restorative dental work most patients want to avoid. Fixing it is not optional if you want the mouth to last.

Braces gave us the control we needed for this one. Precise vertical mechanics. Intrusion of the front teeth. Careful management of the bite plane. Aligners can handle a lot of things well, but for a deep bite this severe, braces gave us the precision to open the bite the exact amount we needed and hold it there.

The result speaks for itself. The bite is now in a healthy, functional relationship. The front teeth meet the way they should. The wear pattern is stopped. The smile looks better on the outside, but the more important story is what is happening on the inside.

This is comprehensive orthodontics. Not a cosmetic touch-up. A rebuild of a bite that was heading somewhere the patient did not want to go.

Nathan is officially done and this one was earned every step of the way.

Some patients coast through treatment. Nathan was not one of them. He put in the work. Every appointment. Every adjustment. Every rubber band day, every check-in, every stretch where progress felt slow. He showed up and did what needed to happen. That is why the final result looks like this.

Here is the honest truth about orthodontics. The plan matters. The clinician matters. But the patient carries a huge part of the outcome, and Nathan carried his share and then some. When a kid takes ownership of their treatment the way he did, the result reflects it.

To Nathan's family, thank you for trusting us with something this important and for supporting him through every step. That kind of consistency at home shows up in the chair.

Nathan, we are so proud of you. Not just for the smile. For the way you got there. Now go show it off. ✨

Undoing years of thumb sucking, one appointment at a time.

This pr***en came in with the classic pattern we see when a childhood thumb habit continues past the age it should. Excessive overjet, where the upper front teeth protruded forward. Deep overbite. A narrow upper arch that did not have enough room for everything to fit. All of it, the fingerprint of a habit that quietly reshaped the developing bite over years.

Here is what people do not always realize. Thumb sucking in a young child is normal. It becomes a problem when it continues long enough to influence how the teeth and jaws grow into each other. Once that happens, the bite does not correct itself. It needs a plan.

For this patient, that plan started with a palatal expander. The expander opened up the upper arch and gave the teeth the room they needed. From there we moved into braces to retract the upper teeth, deepen the overlap in a controlled way, correct the overjet, and rebuild a bite that functions the way it should.

Two appliances. One coordinated plan. A completely different smile.

The reason we caught it in time is age. At this pr***en stage we still have growth on our side, which lets the expander do the heavy lifting instead of surgery down the road. That is exactly why the AAO recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Not because every kid needs treatment. Because catching a habit-related bite issue early is what makes the fix easier later.

If your child has a thumb or finger habit and you are wondering when to worry about the bite, please come see us.

Braces off, Khaliza. πŸŽ‰

Debond day has a rhythm to it. The brackets come off, the tooth surfaces get polished smooth, and then we hand over the mirror and get out of the way. Nobody says much for a few seconds.

Khaliza put in the work to get here. Consistent appointments, elastics worn the way we asked, hygiene that held up through the whole thing. Teeth move because of biology, but treatment finishes well because of the patient. That part never changes.

Some background on the team she trusted with it. Elate is a husband-and-wife practice. Dr. Kevin Baharvand, DMD, MS, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, had his clinical work selected for the cover of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and lectures nationally on clear aligner treatment. Dr. Julia Kang, DMD, trained at Seoul National University and Boston University's Goldman School and has been named to topDentists for the Dallas metro five years running, a list dentists and specialists vote on rather than pay for.

Between them, three offices in West Frisco, North Frisco, and The Colony, over 1,000 five-star reviews, D Magazine Best Dentist 2026, and Living Magazine Readers' Choice 2026.

Congrats, Khaliza. Retainer in. Protect the work.

Phase I orthodontics, done right. ✨

This young patient came to Elate with an anterior crossbite, meaning the upper front teeth were biting behind the lower front teeth instead of in front of them. Left untreated, an anterior crossbite physically restricts the upper jaw from growing forward the way it should, which can affect facial development, breathing, bite function, and the eruption path of the permanent teeth.

Phase I treatment with a palatal expander and partial braces gave us the chance to intervene at exactly the right developmental window.

Here's what we accomplished:

Released the upper jaw from the crossbite trap so it can grow to its full genetic potential, expanded the upper arch to create room for incoming permanent teeth, corrected the front bite to its proper relationship (upper in front of lower), and set this patient up for a simpler, shorter Phase II if it's needed at all.

The Elate difference:

Dr. Baharvand is an ABO Diplomate, AJO-DO cover clinician, Orthotown editorial board member, and D Magazine Best Dentist 2026. Dr. Kang trained at Seoul National University and Boston University, completed a Harvard externship, and was a JCO Resident of the Year finalist. Together they've built Elate around conservative, evidence-based, growth-respecting orthodontics for kids, teens, and adults.

If your child is approaching age 7, or if you've noticed their front teeth bite behind their lower teeth, please come see us. Early evaluations are always complimentary.
