“Electric vs manual toothbrush—does it matter?”

Both can work—but you will always hear Dr. Lake and his awesome hygienists recommend electric toothbrushes as they tend to remove plaque more consistently for most people.

The best toothbrush is the one you’ll use twice a day, every day!

Early cavities often have no symptoms at all. That’s why routine exams and X-rays matter—they help us catch things early, when treatment is simpler.

“Flossing: before or after brushing?”

Officially, I will tell you to floss before brushing 👀 but all of us at Lake Family Dental and your mouth will be happy if you just floss at all 😁

Flossing first knocks plaque loose so your toothpaste can do a better job where your toothbrush can’t reach.

“Bleeding gums are NOT normal”

If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, that’s your body waving a little red flag 🚩

Healthy gums don’t bleed. Bleeding usually means inflammation—and the earlier we catch it, the easier it is to treat.

For most people, a cleaning every 6 months is perfect. Some patients need them more often due to gum health, medical conditions, or how their body responds to plaque.

There’s no “one-size-fits-all” in dentistry—and that’s okay.

Team Spotlight: Olivia!

Olivia may have only been with Lake Family Dental for a year, but she jumped right in like she’d been here forever. She joined us in preparation for our longtime front office manager Karlea’s maternity leave and didn’t miss a beat.

As our Patient Care Coordinator, Olivia is a quick learner with a warm smile and welcoming personality that patients notice right away. She keeps the front office running smoothly and makes sure every visit starts off on the right foot.

Outside of work, Olivia is a devoted wife who loves thrifting, design, and DIY projects—so it’s no surprise she brings a creative touch to everything she does here, too.

We’re lucky to have her as part of our dental family!
