Thursday Dental Tip #1: Tooth pain can be confusing — and the first step is not always an X-ray.
Dr. Eamari Bell explains that before she even begins the exam, she starts by listening.
When did the pain start?
Is it constant?
Does it happen when you eat?
Does it wake you up at night?
Have you taken anything for it?
These questions help the dentist understand what may be causing the pain, how urgent the situation is, and what tooth may need attention.
Sometimes, dentists also need to perform small tests — like a cold test or gently tapping on a tooth — to identify the exact source of the problem. It may feel uncomfortable if the tooth is already sensitive, but the goal is not to hurt you.
The goal is to make sure the right tooth gets the right care.
Because good dentistry starts with listening, trust, and an accurate diagnosis.
