Did you know that gum disease affects about half of adults living in the United States who are over the age of 30?

However, you might not even know you have gum disease until it has progressed to the point that it is difficult to reverse. Hera are the top five signs of gum disease everyone should be aware of:
1. Red and bleeding gums
2. Bad breath
3. Loose teeth
4. Gums move away from the teeth
5. Changes in bite

If you notice any of these signs, schedule an appointment with your dentist to determine how far your gum disease has spread and which of the many different treatment options available is best for your mouth.

Sensitive teeth can be caused by a number of problems. Fortunately, there are ways that can help to ease tooth sensitivity:

1. Use Toothpaste Made for Sensitive Teeth
Using toothpaste that is specifically designed for treating tooth sensitivity can be helpful for symptom relief. Most of these toothpastes contain an ingredient that temporarily fills tiny holes in your enamel and dentin and reduces sensitivity.

2. Use only soft toothbrush
If you use toothbrush with stiff bristles and abrasive toothpaste, it can cause more abrasion of enamel and gum recession leading to microscopic holes, exposed dentin and roots and eventually to more sensitivity. Brush gently with soft toothbrush to preserve surface of your teeth.

3. Eat less acidic food like lemons, pickles and sodas to help reduce sensitivity.

4. Use a mouthguard at night is youโ€™re grinding your teeth at night.

5. Have your gums checked by a Dentist regularly
Receding gums can be a major cause of tooth sensitivity. As gums move away from the tooth surface, some areas of the tooth become more exposed and unprotected. Make sure to treat gum disease to keep your gums healthy.

6. Ask your Dentist about Dental Varnishes and Coatings that Control Sensitivity
There are a number of varnishes and other coatings that can be applied by a dentist to relieve sensitive teeth. Ask your dentist about coating options for reducing sensitivity in teeth.

Dental fillings, especially larger ones or those in place for an extended period, can become susceptible to fractures.

Filling can break from normal wear and tear due to chewing, grinding, or clenching, as well as accidental biting on hard objects. Sometimes, the filling can also chip or crack.

Overall, the lifetime risk of developing oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer is about 1 in 59 for men and 1 in 139 for women.

Oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers occur most often in the:
โ€ข The tongue
โ€ข The tonsils and oropharynx (the part of the throat behind the mouth)
โ€ข The gums, floor of the mouth, and other parts of the mouth
The rest are found in the lips, the minor salivary glands (which often occur in the roof of the mouth), and other sites.

These cancers are more than twice as common in men as in women. They are slightly more common in White people than Black people.
The American Cancer Societyโ€™s most recent estimates for oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers in the United States are for 2024:

โ€ข About 58,450 new cases of oral cavity or oropharyngeal cancer
โ€ข About 12,230 deaths from oral cavity or oropharyngeal cancer

Early detection increases chances of survival! Oral Cancer Screening takes less than 10 minutes!

How often should I get a dental cleaning?

To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that adults and children have a professional teeth cleaning at least twice a year.
The ADA recommends consulting your dentist for advice on an individual basis as everyone's dental needs are different.

A person with bone loss in their jaw usually needs a dental bone graft. This procedure may be recommended if you:
- Are having a tooth extracted.
- Plan to replace a missing tooth with a dental implant.
- Need to rebuild the jaw before getting dentures.
- Have areas of bone loss due to gum (periodontal) disease.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐š ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐›๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐Ÿ๐ญ?

A dental bone graft adds volume and density to your jaw in areas where bone loss has occurred.
Once the bone graft has been placed, it helps to prevent jawbone loss it holds space for your own body to do the repair work. In other words, a dental bone graft is like a scaffold on which your own bone tissue can grow and regenerate and ensures that you will have an adequate amount of jawbone to support dental work when itโ€™s time to restore your smile.

What is Dental Implant?
Technically, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root thatโ€™s placed into your jaw to hold a "fake" tooth (crown) or bridge.

Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost one or more teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason and who prefer not to wear dentures.
