He offers his recommendations for keeping a safe operatory for clinicians and patients alike in the era of COVID-19.

As many may know, Dr. Harrel is a driving force behind SafetySuction by Quality Aspirators. Learn how SafetySuction might be a part of a broader safety protocol within dentistry in controlling contamination of the area.

We have to keep pushing innovative practices to maintain safety during these changing times. Thank you for helping us play a role in keeping you and your patients safe.

Posted • .rey1 Today, I got to use an instrument that i purchased through and .optics called the . As a dental hygienist working through COVID-19, making sure that the production of aerosol stays at minimum while practicing patient care is prudent. I am completely obsessed with this product as it suctions away 95% of aerosols that is produced by the ultrasonic cavitron. My patients absolutely loved this. It’s the little things that count for your patients when it’s about their overall health during a pandemic. I’m sure by now everyone knows that Covid can be passed via aerosols and droplets. This is not an ad, this is merely a dental hygienist showing her appreciation for such an amazing product in making sure that not only patients stay healthy during their dental visit, but also making sure that I stay healthy in the operatory that I work in as well. This was an investment worth making and I am so happy that I get to use this to provide the best care in these uncertain times.🦷 💜

See the difference SafetySuction makes when seen side by side with a Cavitron ultrasonic with no suction, a typical High-Volume-Evacuation / HVE suction, and a standard saliva ejector. The difference is clear!

Capture aerosol at the source! SafetySuction brings high volume evacuation to the tip of aerosol producing devices. Aesosols can contain blood, bacteria, and viruses. SafetySuction's proven technology captures 93% aerosol as it is produced. Aerosols and liquids safely evacuate down the standard high vac suction line.

The standards of dentistry are ever-changing with the demands of healthcare. Routine use of masks, gloves, and other surface protection are no longer enough with the presence of droplet-spread diseases. Measures need to be taken to reduce the amount of aerosol created and distributed in order to prevent the spread within the operatory area.

Maximize protection by minimizing aerosol.

Aerosols are defined as droplets of less than 50 micrometers (Micik). Whether these droplets from dental procedures can carry and transmit virus particles is possible, but unproven. The SafetySuction has been shown to reduce aerosols by 93% (Harrel). It works by connecting a lightweight tube to your highspeed suction, and attaching the SafetySuction to your cavitron. This is one of the ways our office is seeking to promote safety. What are your thoughts?
