🦷Want to know why dentists recommend extracting your Wisdom 🦷 Teeth? Here is a great article explaining the reason!!!

Wisdom teeth can sometimes silently damage the healthy tooth beside them — even before any pain develops.

Many impacted wisdom teeth grow in a tilted position toward the second molar, creating a deep area that is very difficult to clean properly. Food particles, plaque, and bacteria can become trapped there for years without obvious symptoms.

Over time, this hidden space may lead to cavities, gum inflammation, bone loss, and damage to the neighboring molar — an important tooth for long-term chewing function. In many cases, the problem is only discovered on dental X-rays after significant damage has already occurred.

By the time symptoms appear, the nearby tooth may already require a filling, root canal treatment, crown, or even extraction in severe cases. Impacted wisdom teeth may also increase the risk of recurrent swelling, bad breath, gum infection, and repeated food trapping.

Not all wisdom teeth need removal. However, when a wisdom tooth is pressing against the adjacent tooth or increasing the risk of decay and periodontal damage, early removal may help prevent more serious complications later on. Pain is not always the first sign of dental disease.

This is a wonderful timeline to help you follow your child’s teeth progression from baby teeth to adult teeth. We do see children in our office & can help you with your child’s dental needs.

Did you know that the nerve inside of a baby tooth is almost as wide as the tooth itself? It’s very important for them to have their check-ups & take immediate care of any cavities should they arise so that the tooth will not become abscessed.

Let me introduce our awesome dentist to you!!! Dr. Michael Cooper has been with Red Oak Hometown Dental coming up on 4 years.

Dr. Cooper was born and raised in California, but has since lived all over the West before settling down with his family in Midlothian. His childhood dream was to be a trash truck driver, waiting every week and watching for the truck through his bedroom window, and seeing the cool truck arm lift the trashcan into the truck bed. Having an amazing family Dentist ignited his initial spark and set him down the path to becoming a dentist.

Dr. Cooper graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s in Nutritional Science. He then went on to obtain his master’s degree in Biomedical Science, before attending dental school at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. Initially, he aimed to specialize in oral surgery before falling in love with the in’s-and-out’s of general dentistry. He is dedicated to providing the best overall care through continuing education of the advancements in the dental world.

Dr. Cooper has been married to Shayna for 9 years and they have 2 beautiful children. His daughter Aydree is 5 and his son Kaliden is 2. He and his family enjoy many things together including playing games, dance parties and baking & enjoying yummy treats.

Additionally, Dr. Cooper is an EXCELLENT Disc Golf player. You can find him on Saturday mornings with his guy friends enjoying a round around town.

Dr. Cooper is a very "chill" dentist (often called that by many of our patients) and will definitely take the time to listen to your concerns as well as explain your issues to you in detail. He will go at your pace and help to ease your dental anxiety & fear.

We look forward to seeing you in our office and helping you with your dental needs!

Did you know losing a tooth can cause future issues in your mouth? Your bone is there to support your teeth. When your teeth leave your mouth as does your bone!!! It’s crucial for your future oral health to look into tooth replacement! Red Oak Hometown Dental can help you with all your tooth replacement options!

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that area stops receiving normal chewing stimulation. Without this mechanical signal, the body begins to gradually break down the unused bone — a natural process known as bone resorption.

Studies indicate that as much as 25% of the jawbone volume can be lost within the first year if a missing tooth is not replaced. This loss primarily affects the alveolar bone, the part of the jaw that holds the teeth in place, and it occurs most rapidly during the first 6 to 12 months after tooth loss.

As bone resorption continues, neighboring teeth may shift, bite alignment can change, facial contours may alter, and placing dental implants later can become more challenging. What may seem like a minor issue — one missing tooth — can slowly compromise overall oral function and stability.

Timely replacement of missing teeth, particularly with solutions that restore natural chewing forces, plays a critical role in preserving jawbone density, facial support, and long-term oral health.

This is such an interesting study! Your mouth is linked to so much more than you may think or be aware. They know it’s linked to heart disease! Take your oral health seriously!!!!

Scientists are starting to believe that Alzheimer’s disease may not begin only in the brain as we age — it might start in the mouth. New research suggests that long-term gum disease could play a role in triggering changes linked to Alzheimer’s.

In a major 2019 study, researchers found Porphyromonas gingivalis — a bacteria known for causing chronic gum infections — inside the brains of people who had Alzheimer’s. Even more surprising, harmful toxins from this bacteria were also found in people who never showed memory problems, suggesting brain damage may begin years before symptoms appear.

In animal studies, this bacteria traveled from the mouth to the brain, increased Alzheimer’s-related proteins, and caused inflammation. An experimental drug reduced both the bacteria and these harmful proteins in mice.

While this doesn’t prove gum disease causes Alzheimer’s, it highlights a possible link between oral health and brain health.
