🦷 Inside the Operatory Wednesday | Part 3 of 3

It’s the final week of our 3-part series in the lab, where we’ve been following the process of making a custom night guard! 🦷

After the material has been vacuum formed around the prosthesis and cooled, the newly formed night guard is carefully removed from the mold.

Next, the excess material is cut away and the edges are trimmed to remove any rough or uneven areas. Once it’s cleaned up, the prosthesis is placed back into the finished night guard to check the fit and make sure everything seats properly.

And just like that, the custom night guard is ready for the next step in the process! ✨

From heating and forming to trimming and checking the fit, every step helps create a night guard designed to properly fit the patient and help protect their smile.

🦷 Inside the Operatory Wednesday | Part 2 of 3

We’re back in the lab continuing our 3-part series on making a custom night guard! 🦷

Now that the material has been heated and softened, it’s time to form it around the prosthesis.

The vacuum is turned on, and the lever is quickly pressed down over the prosthesis. The vacuum pulls the softened material tightly around it, removing air and creating a close, firm fit.

Once the material has formed around the prosthesis, cool air is used to help it set and return to a stable shape. ❄️

But we’re not finished yet! Next week, we’ll take a look at the final steps of removing, trimming, and checking the fit of the night guard. 👀

Emma is new to the dental field and is excited to continue learning and growing as part of the Lakeside team. One of her favorite parts of the job is seeing patients leave their visits feeling more confident about their smiles. 🦷💙

She’s still deciding on her favorite dental tool, but when it comes to flossing, Emma chooses floss picks!

Outside of the office, Emma enjoys caring for her cats, playing video games, and doing a little shopping. 🐱🎮🛍️

🦷 Inside the Operatory Wednesday | Part 1 of 3

We’re back in the lab this week for a brand-new 3-part series! This time, we’re following the process of making a custom night guard. 😁

Night guards can be especially important for patients with implants. While they don’t necessarily stop clenching or grinding during sleep, they can help protect the implant-supported prosthesis from excessive forces, wear, and potential damage.

To start the process, the protective layer is peeled away from the night guard material. The prosthesis is then positioned on the vacuum forming machine underneath the material.

Once everything is in place, the heat coils are turned on and begin warming the material until it softens, bows, and becomes flexible.

But how does that soft material form perfectly around the prosthesis? 👀

🦷 Inside the Operatory Wednesday | Week 3

We’ve made it to the final step of our three-part lab series! ✨

After the teeth are stained and finished in the UV curing unit, they go through one more careful inspection to check for any imperfections. The screws are tested again to make sure everything fits properly before the teeth are carefully bagged, labeled, and set aside for the patient’s arrival. 🦷🔍

These aren’t just any set of teeth — they’re the patient’s healing teeth, designed to be worn during the healing process while their mouth prepares for their final implants and smile. 💙

For approximately the next six months, these teeth will play an important role in the patient’s journey toward their final result.

From start to finish, there are countless detailed steps that go into creating a patient’s new smile — and this is where all that careful work comes together! ✨

Three weeks in the lab, one very important step closer to the final smile. 🦷💙
