Try something... Think about a typical patient for your practice. For example purposes, let's pretend I own a pediatric dental practice and my typical patient is a 6 year old child with severe decay and behavioral issues.

Now go to your AI of choice, ChatGPT or Gemini whatever and type in something like this "I need to find a dentist that can see my 6 year old child who has behavioral issues and severe decay. I live in... where should I bring my child and why"

Once you see your results try something else like asking it if you should bring your child to your office or the one that is your biggest competitor.

You will learn a lot about your practice and the competition.

It's back to school time! Here are 5 tips for Pediatric or Orthodontic Practices who need some fresh ideas for marketing this season:

1) Build 2 backpacks full of supplies. One for a girl and one for a boy. The best dang backpacks ever - the ones every kid wants. You offer an "enter to win" for a review, a check in, or maybe a refer a friend. You decide! When you pull out the name and it is a girl, they get the girl backpack and they choose a charity (or school) to donate the boys backpack to, and vice versa.

2) Have a school supply donation drive. If a child brings in some school supplies they get an extra token and photos to post on social media. You can usually find a parent who is a teacher at a local school to donate the supplies to. Or consider reaching out to a foster care facilty for a donation drop off.

3) Lunch boxes or water bottles with your logos are always a big hit this time of year too!

4) End of summer blow out where everyone wears Hawaiian print and you have inflatable stuff hanging everywhere. If they write a review, they can pick one of the inflatables and take it home.

5) Nurse Boxes: Provide emergency boxes for the school nurses with sterilized gauze, what to do in case of an emergency, tooth boxes, cold packs (for broken lips), chap sticks, and practice information. Provide about 5 per school and let the schools know to call if they need more.

UP NEXT: I'd start thinking about a USE IT OR LOSE IT Campaign for kiddos that haven't had 2 cleanings, have unscheduled treatment, or haven't been into the office for a while. Starting September 1 is ideal but some offices do not start until Oct. 1st.

Wednesday Wisdom - Ask the coach: "I have a ton of credits on my Accounts Receivable Report. Is that a problem?"

YES! Your state only gives you so long to return the money to the patient before you have to turn it over to the unclaimed property division of revenue in your state. Failure to return the money can result in fines, audits, and cause issues with patients.

3 TIPS:
Tip #1 - Audit every account before issuing refunds. Sometimes credit balances come from improper adjustments or because the patient has duel insurance. You get to keep up to your office fees even if you are in network

Tip #2: If a patient used a Care Credit card or another patient care financing, try to refund back to that account first.

Tip #3: If a patient is on your schedule that has a credit balance, audit the account before the patient comes in for treatment. You don't want to allow the patient to use an inaccurate credit balance towards their patient portion.
