Starting or Buying your first dental practice

Starting or Buying your first dental practice This page is dedicated to challenging those dentists who want to chase their dreams, to go and do it! What if their advice doesn't work?

With a team of 70 practice coaches across the country we feel like we have the ability to support every doctor in chasing their dream of buying or starting their first practice. Too many doctors try to do it on their own with little help from others and limited advice based on friends or family who have only done it once or twice. Why not surround yourself to give you access to the best knowledge

base possible? Imagine if your professors in dental school had only done one or two crowns, or filled only a few cavities. So why only rely on one or two colleague's perspectives to reach your dreams? Who can you trust to guide you through the entire process that is looking out for you and making sure that you have every advantage possible to succeed.

3 Things you need to know Lending edition:

Real world lessons that no one talks about. 😤

✅ Your first loan is the easiest you’ll ever get — banks are actively looking to invest in new practice owners, so the window is open wider than you think. Use this leverage wisely.
✅ You only pay back what you actually use — a big approval number looks great, but your payments are based on what you draw, not what they offered.
✅ “Pre-approval” is basically the bank putting you on their radar — it’s a pass/fail process, not a guarantee, and it mostly just earns you a spot on their follow-up list.

Stop guessing. Start knowing. 🦷💼

NEW Episode 🚨

We discuss how offering staffing flexibility and contingent workforce options helps dental practices reduce burnout and improve retention. Rather than forcing doctors and office managers to feel trapped with limited choices, we explore how practices can use remote and flexible staffing models to let team members focus on tasks they enjoy, reduce administrative burden, and create a more sustainable work environment.

What do lenders really look for in dentists buying practices?

It's not just about numbers. They want to see your commitment, your plan, and your readiness to lead a successful practice. Showing you're serious means having a clear vision, solid financials, and the right team behind you.

Are you ready to show lenders you mean business?

What should you protect before chasing more patients?

Before ramping up volume, secure your team, systems, and finances. Without these in place, growth can quickly turn into chaos.

Are your foundations strong enough to handle more patients?

Thinking of doing a start up this year?!

🔑 Here are some key timelines to keep in mind:
🚨 Disclaimer: I’m keeping it simple bc I’ve done this hundreds of times:

🗓️Typical Dental Start Up: 12 months opening around June 2027
Months 1-3 space search and LOI
Months 4-5 Lease Negotiation
Months 6-8 constructions design, plans and permits
Months 8-12 construction and doors open 🍾

‼️ WHY THIS MATTERS: if you’re Pediatric or Ortho you’d be opening just in time for summer rush. But miss the timing and you’d be lucky to open for back to school.

🫠 If you’re GP without great marketing opening in the summer can be a SLOW StART🐌

🐢 Same if you’re an OMS, Perio, Prosth and Endo. If the GP’s are slow the referrals to your office run the risk of coming slowly as well.
