Georgia School of Orthodontics clinics are closed today, Wednesday, October 14 - Friday, October 16, for an educational conference. We will resume regular business hours on Monday, October 19.

Although our clinics will be closed, team members will be available from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist with account inquiries and scheduling needs.

Georgia School of Orthodontics Associate Professor Dr. Sergio Real recently visited the University of Cartagena in Colombia, where he shared his expertise with orthodontic residents, faculty and alumni.

During his visit, Dr. Real led discussions on the McLaughlin-Bennett-Trevisi (MBT) orthodontic treatment philosophy, reviewed 10 essential steps for successfully completing orthodontic cases, and shared practical clinical insights on proper bracket positioning.

Dr. Real also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with members of the University of Cartagena’s leadership and orthodontic faculty, including Dr. Verena, Chair of the Department of Orthodontics, and Dr. Martinez, Dean of the University. GSO is grateful to the University of Cartagena for welcoming Dr. Real and creating an opportunity for meaningful academic exchange, clinical collaboration and continued international engagement in orthodontic education.

“It was a privilege to connect with the residents and faculty at the University of Cartagena and exchange ideas about clinical techniques, treatment philosophy and the shared goal of advancing orthodontic education. Opportunities like this strengthen our profession and remind us how much we can learn from one another,” said Dr. Real.

Twenty-five years ago today, the September 11 attacks took the lives of nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and aboard United Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In the hours that followed, firefighters, police officers and paramedics moved toward the danger rather than away from it, many of whom did not return home. Passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 acted to protect others at the cost of their own lives. In the weeks and months of recovery that followed, volunteers, medical professionals and ordinary citizens gave whatever they could to help a grieving nation begin to heal.

A quarter century later, GSO remembers those who were lost, honors the courage of everyone who served that day, and keeps in mind the families, survivors and first responders who continue to carry September 11 with them.

Today is also observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance â€” a reminder that one of the most meaningful ways to honor that legacy is through service to others.

We will never forget.

From GSO to Tokyo: Dr. Masoud Shares Clear Aligner Research at Nippon Dental University

Georgia School of Orthodontics Director of Research Dr. Mohamed Masoud recently had the honor of presenting at Nippon Dental University in Tokyo, Japan, where he shared research on in-office clear aligner design and manufacturing and its impact on clinical outcomes. His presentation, “Does Transitioning from Commercial Aligner Manufacturing to In-Office Aligner Design and Manufacturing Affect Clinical Outcomes?” explored whether orthodontists can achieve comparable results when designing and manufacturing clear aligners in-office rather than relying solely on commercial systems.

The research showed that in-office aligners can produce results similar to, and in some cases better than, commercial aligners while potentially requiring fewer aligners and less treatment time. Findings also suggest that the clinician’s virtual treatment design may have a greater impact on outcomes than the aligner brand or type of plastic used. This work is now continuing at GSO, where several cohorts of residents are participating in follow-up projects comparing aligner systems and materials. GSO is also beginning to incorporate education on in-office aligner design and manufacturing into resident training.

“As the scope of orthodontic cases treated with clear aligners expands, it is increasingly important for orthodontists to be comfortable designing their own virtual treatment plans without depending on a technician or outside service,” said Dr. Masoud.

During his visit, Dr. Masoud also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with leaders in orthodontic education and research, including Professor Kazu Arai, Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at Nippon Dental University, and Dr. Keisuke Tochigi. GSO is grateful to Nippon Dental University for welcoming Dr. Masoud and providing an international forum to share research, foster academic collaboration and explore innovations shaping the future of orthodontic treatment.

Welcome, Class of 2029!

Following orientation last week, GSO’s newest residents are officially beginning Introduction to Orthodontics, an intensive seven-week course that lays the foundation for their three-year journey at Georgia School of Orthodontics.

Over the weeks and years ahead, these talented dental professionals will expand their knowledge, strengthen their clinical skills and grow into the next generation of orthodontic specialists.

We’re excited to welcome the Class of 2029 and look forward to sharing more moments from their GSO journey along the way!
