A knocked-out adult tooth is a dental emergency. Hold the tooth by the crown—not the root—keep it moist and contact a dentist immediately. Acting quickly matters.

Save this post so you know what to do if an emergency happens. For serious facial trauma or uncontrolled bleeding, call 911.

Lost a filling or crown? Keep the area clean, avoid chewing on that side and call a dentist promptly. If the crown comes out, save it and bring it with you—but never use household glue to put it back in place.
