Standard Chartered Hong Kong Half Marathon 2026 🏃♂️
Hardest half marathon I’ve ever run.
Just a few kilometers in, one of my shoe soles loosened and completely dislodged.
In that moment, it felt like an emotional roller coaster.
Disappointed. Frustrated. Hopeless and helpless.
Watching other runners pass by, feeling the envy.
Some even said, “Oh… game over.”
But right then, I remembered what I’ve always taught my sons:
No matter how bad the situation is, make full use of the resources you still have.
So I made a decision.
I destroyed the other shoe sole too, adjusted my mental state, and carried on… sole-less.
Running without shoe soles is no joke.
Part of me wanted to run faster, to end it quickly.
Another part of me had to stay extremely careful —
Between my feet and the rough highway road were only running socks, a thin insole, and a base cloth.
Every step had to be controlled to avoid impact and reduce friction.
At the water point, I could feel water seeping in from the bottom.
Wet feet. Rough road. Thin protection.
Still, I pressed on for 18KM… and finally crossed the finish line.
This wasn’t just a race.
It was a reminder that resilience isn’t about perfect conditions.
It’s about adapting, enduring, and refusing to quit when things fall apart.
Not game over.
Just a different way forward.
