Your surgery can go well — but healing depends on what’s happening inside your body too.
☀️ One factor that deserves more attention? Vitamin D.
🦴 Vitamin D plays an important role in bone metabolism, making it particularly relevant when healing after dental implant surgery, bone grafting and other procedures involving bone.
🕵️♀️ A 2024 systematic review of 1,462 patients and 4,450 dental implants found an association between vitamin D status and dental implant osseointegration, with the authors suggesting vitamin D deficiency may be a potential risk factor for poorer implant outcomes (Buzatu et al., 2024, Nutrients).
💻 Another systematic review found that patients with low serum vitamin D had a higher tendency toward early dental implant failure, although the authors emphasised that more clinical research is needed (Werny et al., 2022, International Journal of Implant Dentistry).
❓ So before dental surgery, it’s worth asking:
“Have I checked the nutritional foundations that support healing?”
Vitamin D is only one piece of the picture. overall nutrition, blood-sugar regulation, systemic diseases, immune function, stress and sleep can all contribute to the body's ability to repair and rebuild.
🧍 Because successful dental surgery isn't just about the procedure — it's also about the biology of the patient.
📧 Save this for your next dental surgery and share it with someone preparing for an implant or bone-grafting procedure.
