FILLINGS:

At Dr Aamna's Dental Clinic, we carry out restorative dentistry treatments, such as fillings. Fillings allow us to restore damaged teeth to bring back function, improve your smile, and prevent future oral health problems. Call us today at 0312 5380208

Tooth fillings are one of the most common restorative treatments that are carried out by dentists. They consist of a variety of hard-wearing materials that are used to repair tooth cavities, typically caused by tooth decay.

What to Expect During a Filling Procedure:
Depending on the size of the filling, and where it is positioned in the mouth, you should expect to spend 30-60 minutes at our office. The dentist may need to take an x-ray if the filling is in an awkward place at the back of the mouth, but most fillings can be carried out without an x-ray.
Once you have decided on the material, your mouth will need to be numbed with a local anesthetic in the area around the tooth in question. After a few minutes, once the local anesthetic has taken effect, the dentist will begin to remove the decay in the tooth with a drill which should only take a few minutes. Then the tooth will be cleaned, the chosen filling applied to the cavity, and the material left to set for a little while. Once hardened, the dentist will begin to shape and smooth the filling until you are both satisfied with how it looks and feels. The procedure is completed with a quick polish.

Choosing A Filling Material:
We will discuss with you the various materials that can be used for your filling, which include silver amalgam, glass ionomer, tooth-colored composite, porcelain, or gold. Most people prefer tooth-colored materials to give a good cosmetic result, but the choice of material used in your filling may be dependent on the suitability of the material for your circumstances.
Amalgam fillings have been used by dentists for more than a hundred years. They are the least expensive of all the filling materials, are incredibly strong, and ideal for filling large teeth in the back of the mouth. However, they do not look as pleasing as other fillings.
Composite (resin) fillings are a better cosmetic solution as they can be matched to the color of your teeth. They are good for small to medium restorations.
Porcelain (ceramic) fillings are tooth-colored and hard-wearing but may be almost as expensive as a gold filling. Porcelain fillings are one of the most popular choices for patients due to the ability to match the teeth surrounding the filling.
Gold fillings are considerably more expensive than amalgam and are very durable. Although not to everyone’s taste, some people like to make a fashion statement with them.
Glass Ionomer is a blend of glass and acrylic. It can be color-matched but is far less durable than other filling materials and may need replacing every five years.

How Do I Know When to Replace a Filling?
For many people, it will be quite obvious when you need to replace a filling as it will break, or fall out. Other signs may be pain, discomfort, or sensitivity in your tooth or if you notice that decay is developing around the filling.

Get in touch with us at Dr Aamna's Dental Clinic by calling 0312 5380208 to find out more about the range of tooth fillings we offer.

Non Surgical Treatment Scaling and Root Planning

Dr Aamna's Dental Clinic offers a full range of non-surgical treatments for periodontal disease, including scaling and root planning. Get in touch to schedule an appointment at 0312 5380208.

Scaling and root planning is a two-step procedure to remove plaque and hardened plaque (tartar) from above and below the gum-line. It is a deep cleaning process that removes the causative factors that contribute to periodontal disease.

What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal disease develops if the acid-producing plaque bacteria in our mouths are not kept under control. During the early stages of periodontal disease, there is little in the way of symptoms as the disease progresses painlessly and undetected. This is why regular dental check-ups are essential because dentists can spot the signs that you cannot.

Gingivitis is the early stage of periodontal disease. The acid produced by the bacteria causes irritation to the gums and they become red and inflamed around the gum-line. Brushing and flossing may cause the gums to bleed.

If the disease is not treated at this stage, it progresses. The gums begin to shrink back, pulling away from the teeth and forming deep pockets. The pockets are a haven for bacteria as brushing and flossing cannot remove the bacteria or food debris from them. As bacteria multiply, they destroy the soft tissues around the teeth, including gums and ligaments, and begin to compromise the bone. This results in bone loss in the jaw, eventually leading to tooth loss when the disease reaches advanced stages.

What Happens During Scaling and Planning?

Scaling and planning may be carried out by a dentist, or a dental hygienist. The goal of the procedure is to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth and roots, leaving a smooth surface that is inhospitable to bacteria. Once these are removed, the tissues can begin to heal

Scaling:

Scaling removes the hard tartar deposits from above and below the gum-line. A hand tool, ultrasonic instruments, or both may be used to break-up the tartar and remove the plaque.

Root Planning:

Root planning goes deeper and smooths out the rough areas on the surface of the tooth roots. This decreases inflammation of the gum tissue, allowing them to heal and reattach to the teeth. Sometimes, medication may be inserted into the pockets by the dentist to prevent infection and aid healing.

How Often Should I Have Teeth Scaling and Root Planning?

Teeth scaling and root planning carried out in the earliest stage of periodontal disease can cure the disease. However, once the disease has progressed beyond gingivitis and has started to affect the bone, it can no longer be cured.

Teeth scaling and root planning is an important treatment in the management of periodontal disease. Even if the disease cannot be cured, it can be prevented from becoming worse. Thus, if you do have periodontal disease, the dentist may recommend you have teeth scaling and root planning treatments at regular intervals, sometimes every 3 months depending on the extent of your disease.

SCALING AND POLSIHING PROCEDURE:

Teeth cleanings with our dentists at Dr Amna's Dental Clinic will not only give you that squeaky-clean freshness but is an essential part of an effective preventive care regime. The focus on preventive dentistry is to stop the disease, and with the right approach, your mouth will remain healthy and disease-free.
Preventive dentistry includes a range of actions you can take yourself, such as brushing and flossing twice daily, as well as eating a healthy diet. Cleaning teeth is one of the simplest ways of maintaining oral health.
Brushing and flossing help to remove food debris and sticky deposits caused by sugars and starches that attract acid-producing bacteria. The acid they produce wears away tooth enamel, causing decay, and irritates gums. Gum disease may follow, and if no remedial action is taken, gum disease, which is curable, may advance to the more severe periodontitis. Periodontitis is the stage of gum disease that destroys the mouth's soft tissues and jawbone, inevitably leading to tooth loss.
Any home oral hygiene regime should be supplemented with regular visits to the dentist for check-ups and professional teeth cleaning. Over time, the sticky film that bacteria leave on the teeth (plaque) hardens into tartar (calculus), leaving a yellowish, chalky deposit, particularly on the bottom of the teeth at the gumline. This is difficult to remove at home, requiring the expertise of a dentist or hygienist to remove it.
Professional teeth cleaning with us consists of a physical examination and scale and polishes. Both of these should be conducted every six months when you go into your check-ups.

A Physical Examination:
Following a consultation where you can discuss with the dentist any health concerns you have, your mouth will then be examined. We will check for signs of tooth decay, gum problems, or other diseases and we may take x-rays.

Scale and Polish:
The next step is to remove stains and deposits from the surface of the teeth, in between them, and at the gum margins. Large deposits of tartar are removed with an ultrasonic scraper, followed by a manual scaling tool to scrape away any persistent remains.
If you regularly have teeth cleanings with us, it is likely that this process will be reasonably quick. However, if you have a build-up of tartar this will take longer.

Once the deposits of tartar are removed, the teeth are polished and made smooth, which discourages bacteria from adhering to the surface of the teeth. A high-powered toothbrush is used to scrub the teeth with gritty toothpaste, and the teeth are polished to produce a shiny, smooth surface.

The final step is for you to rinse your mouth to remove any debris and grit. We will then protect the teeth with an application of fluoride.

How Often Should I Have Teeth Cleanings?
At a minimum, it is usually recommended that you should have professional teeth cleaning twice a year. However, this very much depends on several issues, such as your oral hygiene regime, whether you have gum or periodontal disease, and your predisposition to oral health problems. You may be advised by the dentist to attend more or less, regularly.

Call us on 0312 5380208 to find out more, or to schedule, an appointment at Dr Amna's Dental Clinic for professional teeth cleaning.

Zirconia Crowns

We offer porcelain crowns at Dr Amna's Dental Clinic that give a good, natural-looking cosmetic result. They are also extremely hard-wearing. Find out more and why you should consider this material if you need a dental crown.

When Do I Need a Dental Crown?
A crown is a protective cover that can be made from porcelain, metal, or porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM). It will protect your tooth against decay, fractures, and wear and tear. A crown is usually needed when a tooth has been damaged by an injury or tooth decay.

It protects the natural tooth structure around the damaged area which could lead to further problems if left untreated. It is also used to add strength for a tooth that is missing much of its structure because of a large filling or root canal.

Crowns are also used to replace teeth in bridges and dental implants. Additionally, it can be used as a purely cosmetic treatment to improve the appearance of an imperfect tooth.

Why Choose Porcelain Crowns?
Porcelain has many advantages over other materials such as metal. Notwithstanding It can last up to 15 years with proper care. It looks nearly identical to real teeth so you won't have any problems with people asking if your crown is false. It can be color-matched so that it blends in with your teeth seamlessly.

Crowns made from porcelain look just as good after several years of wear compared to when they were first made. This long-lasting beauty will make you feel great about your teeth. They are stain-resistant so you won’t get discoloration from tea, coffee, or red wine.

Whether you need a crown fitted on your back teeth or front teeth, porcelain can be used in all areas of the mouth. Cosmetically, it looks good but its strength means it can be safely used on the back teeth where immense chewing and biting forces are exerted.

What Does the Procedure for Porcelain Crowns Entail?
Having a crown fitted typically takes two visits. During the first visit, your tooth is prepared to receive the crown and in the next visit, you will have the crown fitted.

Preparing The Tooth
After examining your mouth, we may take x-rays to check the adjacent teeth and tooth roots. After a local anesthetic we set about preparing the tooth. Any decay on the tooth is removed and the tooth is pared down so that a crown fits snugly over it. We provide you with a temporary crown until your new crown is sent to us for a permanent restoration.

Impressions of the mouth are taken so that plaster cast models can be made. These are sent to a lab that can make the crown fit the model of your mouth. We also send them details of the color so the lab can match your crown to your other teeth.

Permanent Restoration.
We remove the temporary crown and fit the porcelain crown over your tooth to check the fit and color. We can make any minor adjustments to the crown and only when we are satisfied will we cement it in place permanently. If you’d like to know more about porcelain crowns at Dr Amna's Dental Clinic, phone us on 0312 5380208

TOOTH WHITENING OR DENTAL BLEACHING:

Dr Amna's Dental Clinic offers teeth whitening solutions for our patients. One of the most cost-effective cosmetic dentistry treatments, you can transform your smile in an hour.
If you're planning to whiten your teeth, the safest and most effective way is to visit a dentist. We offer in-office whitening that you can rely on to do the job gently and safely.
Before the procedure, we will likely spend some time discussing possible risks and side effects with you. We will also ask about your medical history and give your mouth an examination to ensure that it is healthy enough for the procedure.

LASER TEETH WHITENING:
Laser teeth whitening is popular and offers the most dramatic transformation, whitening teeth by up to 14 shades. Before treatment begins, we will use a shade chart to assess the color of your teeth. After treatment, we will use the shade chart again so you can measure exactly how many shades whiter your teeth are.
Before the whitening process begins, your teeth are cleaned to remove any stubborn stains. Next, we will protect the soft tissues of your mouth from the bleaching gel with a gingival protector surrounding the teeth.

The whitening gel is applied to the teeth. The laser is directed at your teeth, which activates the bleaching properties in the gel that whiten the teeth. This process may only be carried out once, or several times—it varies depending on what tooth whitening system is used.
Once the application of the gel is complete, your teeth are cleaned thoroughly to remove all traces of the gel, and the process is finished. Your teeth are immediately and noticeably whiter.

AM I SUITABLE FOR TEETH WHITENING?
Teeth whitening may be a cosmetic procedure, but it should be treated with caution. If you have active gum disease or tooth decay, whitening procedures can cause irritation and even permanent harm. If you have ever had tooth sensitivity you will know this is something you will not want to live with forever, which is why it is always essential to see a dental health professional about whitening treatments. Call us on +92 312 5380208 for further information about our teeth whitening treatments at Dr Amna's Dental Clinic.

CLEANING, SCALING AND POLISHING:

The importance of teeth cleaning at the dentist is something that is often overlooked. Sure, it's not as exciting as a new TV or computer, but maintaining dental hygiene can prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Find out more with Dr. Amna's Dental Clinic.

Did you know that there are more than 150 bacteria on your toothbrush? Not to mention the millions of harmful microbes that live in your mouth. Even if you have a regular dental hygiene routine at home, there are some parts of the mouth where your brushing and flossing may not reach. This provides a haven for bacteria to multiply, producing acid plaque that attacks the teeth and gums.

What Does the Dentist Do During Teeth Cleaning?

Tooth cleaning at the dentists will remove any tartar or calculus deposits from above and below the gumline with special instruments that are designed for this purpose. The teeth may be polished after they have been scaled in order to get rid of stains on them.
In some cases when there is a heavy accumulation of tartar (calculus) between the teeth and underneath the gum line, a standard teeth cleaning procedure may not be enough to remove it. This is where scaling and root planing may also be carried out, which is a deeper clean to remove calculus from the visible part of the tooth and the tooth root below the gumline.

What to Expect at the Dentist's When You Go for Teeth Cleaning?

Teeth cleaning is a routine procedure and isn't painful. It starts with an examination of your mouth so that the dentist can give your mouth the once over to see if there are any health issues, such as gum disease and tooth decay. Next, the cleaning process begins. This includes:

A. PLAQUE REMOVAL.

The dentist will then use water and a dental scraper (also called an explorer) or laser cleaning device to remove plaque build-up on your teeth. This will expose the white tooth under it.

B. SCALING AND ROOT PLANNING:

Scaling and root planning removes plaque build-up from both the top of your teeth’ surfaces and beneath them at their roots. The process also gets rid of tartar-hardened bacteria that form when plaque mixes with saliva in your mouth over time. The dentist removes tartar from your teeth's surface layer with an ultrasonic scaler or files, then smooths out any rough spots on the tooth roots.

C. APPLICATION OF PASTE:
After all the plaque and tartar are removed, the dentist applies a gritty toothpaste to your teeth, which helps to remove any debris and surface stains. A high-speed water sprayer (also known as an air/water syringe) is to rinse away all the toothpaste residue.

D. FLOURIDE APPLICATION
Finally, the teeth are polished and fluoride is applied to the surface of the teeth to help prevent the further build-up of plaque that can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. This also leaves your teeth a little whiter than when you started.

How Often Do I Need Teeth Cleaning with the Dentist?
Every 6 months is suggested. However, if you have bad breath, bleeding gums, or other symptoms it is worth going in sooner so the dentist can determine what needs to be done. Some people who have ongoing problems with gum disease may need to have 3-monthly cleanings. Call us on 0312-5380208 if you’d like to schedule an appointment for teeth cleaning at Dr. Amna's Dental Clinic.

ROOT CANALS:

Root canal treatment at Dr. Amna's Dental Clinic is a less intrusive option than tooth extraction. Despite its negative reputation, it will not be as big of an imposition to have the infected root canal removed rather than having your tooth extracted and replaced with dentures or implants, which can be costly.

What is a Root canal?
The procedure involves removing all infected tissue from inside a tooth before cleaning out any debris that builds up in there over time. Once this has been completed, your dentist will seal off access to the hollow part of the chamber with either cement or crowns depending on what's best for you as an individual patient.
Although many people are anxious about the thought of root canal treatment, there really is no need. It is similar to a filling in terms of discomfort—but it just takes longer. This is because all the soft tissue must be removed from the center of the tooth, as well as down each root and root canal.

How Do You Know You Need a Root Canal?
A tooth can become infected by bacteria if the soft center (pulp chamber) becomes exposed. This happens when damage to the hard shell of the tooth allows bacteria to reach the pulp chamber.
Most people experience some degree of pain or discomfort when endodontic treatment is necessary (although some experience no symptoms). The main indications that a root canal may be needed include:

A. PAIN
For some people, the pain of a toothache can be mild and non-existent. For others, it may come in waves or is persistent throughout their mouths with no specific site. This discomfort usually starts off localized to one particular tooth, but then spreads outwards from there. It's possible for your jawline as well as other teeth to feel sore—which isn't uncommon given that they are all part of the same mouth!

B. TOOTH SENSTIVITY
Anyone who has felt a sharp, stabbing pain when drinking an iced drink may be familiar with tooth sensitivity. The same pain can also occur from something hot, too. Tooth sensitivity is also one of the most common symptoms of an infected root canal that needs intervention by a dentist. People often mistake this sensation for simply having sensitive teeth but it could actually mean much more if your discomfort persists once you have stopped consuming the hot or cold foodstuffs.

C. SWOLLEN GUMS.
If your mouth is in pain, swollen gums may be a sign of tooth decay. Have you noticed that the swelling around the painful area feels tender or might ooze foul-tasting pus when pressure is applied to it?

D. DISCOLORED TOOTH
A tooth can turn gray if an infection in the pulp causes damage to its root. This discoloration may occur as a result of tissue breakdown due to gum disease, among other things.

Preventing a Root Canal:
Brushing teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day, and flossing between the teeth at the beginning and end of every day are some effective ways to prevent problems requiring root canal treatment. There really is no shortcut. In addition, visiting the dentist regularly can help to detect any problems early before they get serious.
