A free hand dental implant technique is a conventional surgical method where the oral surgeon/periodontist manually places the dental implants using tactile feedback, diagnostic radiographs and anatomical landmarks, rather than relying on 3D printed surgical/digital guides. Despite high success rates, it requires immense clinical experiences and carries a higher risk of angular deviation compared to guided procedures. To avoid deviations, the surgeon/periodontist uses the adjacent teeth/anatomical structures, surgical experience to control drill depth and angulation manually and must adhere to established implant spacing rules with respecting the minimum bone thicknesses of both maxillary and mandibular bone.
This is a case of 60/Male patient who underwent free hand all on 6 dental implant placement(total of 12 implants) for both the maxillary and mandibular edentulous jaw with maxillary sinus lifting on right and left anthrum. The post-operative panoramic radiograph showed good implant spacings, established implant parallelism/angulation, biomechanically driven implants, preserved neighboring structures and most importantly controlled implant depths with good primary stability.
