“Split Crest” is a technique now widely used in the field of bone augmentation procedures for implant purposes. It consists of performing an osteotomy along the profile of an edentulous crest of insufficient thickness to accommodate implants, and then mechanically expanding it. The implants are inserted here with a torque sufficient to guarantee their primary stability and also perform a stabilizing action on the open crest. At this point, the tissue will reossify, slowly filling the surgically obtained gap.

Lo splitting crestale è una tecnica ormai molto utilizzata nell’ambito delle procedure di bone augmentation a fini implantari. Consiste nell’effettuare un’osteotomia lungo il profilo di una cresta edentula di spessore insufficiente ad ospitare impianti, per poi espanderla meccanicamente. Gli impianti vengono qui inseriti con un torque sufficiente a garantirne la stabilità primaria e svolgono anche un’azione stabilizzante sulla cresta aperta. Il tessuto, a questo punto, riossificherà, andando lentamente a colmare il gap ottenuto chirurgicamente.
