A disto-angular impaction is a type of wisdom tooth problem where the tooth at the back of the mouth grows in a tilted position, leaning backward instead of coming up straight.

Most commonly, this happens with the lower wisdom tooth. Because there is often not enough space in the jaw, the tooth gets “stuck” partially or completely inside the bone or gum. This can lead to:

Pain or swelling near the back teeth
Food getting trapped around the area
Gum infection
Difficulty opening the mouth
Pressure on nearby teeth

Bruxism and its effects on dental health

Bruxism is the habitual grinding or clenching of teeth, often occurring unconsciously—either during sleep (sleep bruxism) or while awake (awake bruxism). It’s more common than people realize and can quietly cause significant dental damage over time.

🔍 What causes bruxism?
There isn’t a single cause, but common contributors include:

Stress and anxiety (most common trigger)

Misaligned teeth (malocclusion)

Sleep disorders (like sleep apnea)

Lifestyle factors (excess caffeine, alcohol, smoking)

Certain medications (especially some antidepressants)

Oral health is an integral part of overall systemic health. The condition of the teeth and gums not only reflects general well-being but can also influence the body’s health. Common oral diseases such as Gingivitis and Periodontitis are closely linked with systemic conditions like Diabetes mellitus and Cardiovascular disease. Therefore, maintaining good oral hygiene is essential not only for a healthy smile but also for overall health and quality of life.
