The immunological effects of untreated gum disease can amplify risk of a range of disorders.
Many disorders have an inflammatory component. An association between gum infections and conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes is particularly well established. Findings in the past few years have also linked periodontal infection to other conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
