I was beyond nervous after not visiting a dentist in years after bad experiences. I made this clear when arrived and the staff couldn’t have been better. From the reception to the hygienists to the actual dentist…2 visits, plan booked, nerves settled. Couldn’t recommend enough. From a nervous wreck who talks a lot when he’s nervous. Thankyou so much. Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental health and physical health are closely connected, and that includes oral health too.

When people are struggling with stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or low mood, everyday things like brushing, flossing, attending appointments, or dealing with dental worries can suddenly feel much harder than usual.

As dental professionals, it is important to remember that behind every appointment is a person who may be carrying far more than we can see. A little patience, kindness, reassurance, and understanding can make a real difference to someone’s experience.

For patients, please know that dental anxiety is incredibly common, and there should never be shame in finding things difficult. Open conversations and supportive care matter.

This Mental Health Action Week is a reminder that looking after ourselves includes both our mental and physical wellbeing, and compassion should always be part of healthcare.
