“NO MORE SPACES” This lovely patient had moved from abroad and was in the process of finishing her alignment treatment.

We sometimes get cases where the teeth are too narrow to allow full closure of the spaces with orthodontics alone. Luckily her orthodontist abroad had the foresight to create fairly even spaces between the teeth to allow me to do my magic.

Case involved a diagnostic wax up for function and shape followed by 10 Composite Veneers to provide a well balanced and proportioned smile. Case was treated using a mix of materials of varying opacities and translucencies to block out the darkness in the spaces but also allow her tooth colours to shine through.

“TRIANGLES” Confession, my favourite triangles are the green ones in a Quality Street box but second best are these!

Adult orthodontics is great but a huge part of this is that the teeth being aligned maybe compromised with wear, old fillings or tooth shape. When teeth straighten out, some patients are left with small gaps by the gum line which are often referred to as “black triangles”

These are usually caused by a number of things such as a thin gum type, bone levels and tooth shapes.

When treating these, its important to respect the gum tissue so more often than not, the first line of treatment after orthodontics is great oral hygiene and time as in some cases, the gum may grow back enough to improve things over 2-3 months to not need restorative treatment.

When restoring, important to stress that we still need to leave a small amount of space in these areas to allow the gums to “breathe” and space for cleaning. I prefer my patients to floss rather than use interdental brushes here as these can “push” the gums away.

This case was treated with Bioclear Matrix UK matrices and GC UK G-aenial Universal Injectables and spending time of the finish and polish to reduce plaque accumulation.

“NEAT AND NATURAL” Not every case needs many teeth treated, this is a story of how we treated 2 and bit teeth to provide the final touches following aligner treatment.

The lateral incisors were a little short and after some discussions and planning, two composite veneers were made using Empress Direct plus tints with a tiny edge bond on the central incisor.

Nice and easy if you break it down into stages!

“CHEESE” This really delightful patient wanted a fuller wider smile after having a round of Invisalign with the orthodontist and asked for help.

Big part of treatment planning is trying to see the end result through your patients eyes and after a combination of a trial smile and seeing reference smiles, our lovely patient was able to say “cheese!”

Case was a combination of Boutique Whitening and 10 composite veneers using Empress Direct.

Short round of orthodontics using Invisalign to shuffle the teeth around to improve function and positions, gum lift to improve tooth heights and finished off with amazing ceramic work by to harmonise the overall smile and mask a dark tooth for extra measure.

“NATURAL or BRIGHT?” Interesting case of two types of veneers for the same patient…..

Using skilled technicians and a blank canvas we can control the outcome whether it be a “natural” or a “bright” final look.

“NATURAL” means subtle characteristics in the lower edges and a colour transition from the neck of the tooth downwards.

“BRIGHT” means more emphasis on a more even colour from neck downwards and just a hint of characterisation on the lower edges.

No right or wrong answer for this, sometimes it’s just what looks good within the face of the patient.

“REFRESH” Story of how not all composite bonding is the same…..

Patient had composite bonding elsewhere but she was unhappy with the result. Sadly this dentist was not an alumni of as they would have been shown and taught how to do this properly 😉

This Empress-ive outcome was a combination of top up tooth whitening with and replacing the old bonding for new using Empress Direct Composite Veneers.

“CLEAN” Such a great minimally invasive result for this patient….

Initially this teenager had come in for Composite Veneers as she didn’t like her smile and teeth but we had other plans.

Recipe of tooth whitening using gels followed by Icon White Spot treatment has had her smiling again.
